Put it on Program (P).

You'll get full point-and-shoot exposure but the flash won't fire unless you pop it up.

Hope this helps.

The D80 is much too complicated for a novice to learn and utilize the functions without a manual. Download the manual from Nikon.com.

Turn the dial to either P, A, S or M. In the auto mode, the camera decides if you need flash. In the other modes, you must make the flash pop up yourself.

Then invest in a good book or two in beginning photography. Best wishes, enjoy your new camera.

I've got a Crackberry 8703e, but I don't know what the Sure Type option is. Give me some more detail, I can usually figure these things out. Email or message. If it's like AutoText for SMS text messages, go to options, click SMS set the Disable AutoText field to Yes click the trackwheel and click save.

I'm guessing you are shooting in the fully auto mode. If you shoot in another mode, you can shoot with available light. Try fully manual (you select both aperture and shutter), aperture priority (think this is A on a Nikon) where you select a larger lens opening and the camera selects the shutter speed. You can also increase your ISO to make the sensor more sensitive to light, such as 800 or higher, though this can cause a "noisy" image similar to grain in film.

Go to barns & noble, amazon or borders books and there is a great series of books or my favorite (DVD) "Magic Lantern guides" for Nikons & Cannons. With the DVD, you watch as a professional guides you through lessons. You got a great camera, learn how to use it, this is one way.

Read your camera's manual. It will teach you everything you need to know to fully use your camera.
