Well, one thing we can do is to stop poisoning the environment - use more natural and biodegradable products. Avoid using toxic chemicals - cleaners, detergents, etc.

Swith to a diesel car and use biodiesel fuel (cheaper too!) You can make it yourself.

There's not too much we can do about the climate change - that seems to be happening on Mars too so it's not just an Earth thing.

We can avoid using bio-engineered seeds - use heritage seeds.
We can also use organic pesticides and natural fertilizers - support organic farmers. Grow your own...

Put up a windmill for electric power. Go off the grid.

Recycle your grey water (from laundry, dishes, showers etc.) to wash the car, flush the toilet etc.

First and foremost I like your reference to;" directly or indirectly", not to pump you up but that means a least you have a sense of awareness. There's nothing on this planet that isn't affected but something else,it's called the stasis theory. The world will only change through acute awareness and education as a individual there's unlimited means in which to convey the concerns you expressed.Just getting your message across was a big step.We know that there is very little that can be done about natural occurrences so that lessens our decision process to the individual. You can try the electoral process and vote for people that have the same views as you.You can also become proactive and do your part, such recycling, growing your veggies etc..,but most importantly informing younger generations about our responsibilities to the earth.

We are not destroying our home and we are not killing our Earth. That is like saying you are starving because you missed lunch. Real starving people missed eating for a week! You sit in your comfortable, safe home and chat about stories you hear as if death and destruction were all around you. It isn't! The world is FAR better off today that it has even been in all recorded history and GETTING BETTER all the time! The stories you hear about pollution are just the worst you can find because all the REALLY bad problems have already been solved! The black death no longer kills half the population of Europe. Whole cities are no longer routinely killed to the last man, woman and child by conquering armies. One out of every three women no longer die in child birth. Life expectancy is up. People in ancient Rome used to put lead in their wine because they though it was GOOD for them. Now we get all worked up because there is lead in pain on some toys that children MIGHT eat. It is SO much better today that people are so spoiled that they grasp at the smallest little nothing of a slight inconvenience and call it the end of the world! Sure we have problems, but NOTHING like what we used to have. And they are being solved!

Kill a few billion people would do it.
