Presumably it's saliva - this is most often a sign of severe dental problems. How old is the cat? They usually have some of dental issues by age 3 and are in need of a bit of work by around age 8-9, and some serious work by the time they're in their teens! Even a young cat could have got a problem in the mouth, perhaps an injury, that could have caused an abscess.

Cats don't usually show signs of pain, especially dental pain. It's their instinct to hide it. Take her to the vet asap.

I agree with the other posters, check for dental issues, or access to plants.

Another thing I would check is flea medication, I have a cat that is allergic to the topical flea meds. When it is applied he "drools", it's actually more than drool.

You said your vet is closed, but if he develops other symptoms, like panting, unsteady on his feet, or eyes rolling, it COULD be a serious issue. In that case take him to another vet, I'm sure your vet would understand. They only want what's best for your pet.

Best wishes, hope everything turns out well.

If this is new, look for mouth injury. Cuts, something stuck. Any chance he got into something that tastes bad, if so is it toxic?
You would be aware of gum inflammation or tartar on the teeth, I think; that would come on gradually. Is there one tooth that seems painful? Just like people they will abcess sometimes. Watch him eat, if he suddenly drops something it might be a sore tooth.

If it just seems to be drool (like a dog would have) then it's probably fine. Sometimes cats that are outdoors a lot begin to drool; so if your cat is outside majority of the time, that's probably why.

call the vet's office they will usually have either an answering service that will get you intouch with someone or have a number for you to call to another clinic that you can go to.
