I went through an intersection that I thought was still at a yellow light. I got a flash, indicating to me I was snapped by a red light camera. Now, is it pretty much guaranteed that I will get a ticket in the mail? Do they just need your license plate number to ticket you? Or are there some cases where they review the tape and not write/send a ticket? Btw, this happened in LA county where the ticket is $381.

They don't ever review the tap, if your back tires are across the line when it's yellow, then you're fine, if not, then you're getting a ticket. Good luck, & they are very hard to get out of.

A violation occurs when a motorist enters an intersection some time after the signal light has turned red. This means even if you entered on a yellow...if the light changes to red while still in the intersection...you've run the light!

Trained police officers or other officials review every picture to verify vehicle information and ensure the vehicle is in violation. Tickets are mailed to vehicle owners only in cases where it is clear the vehicle ran a red light.

When I stop a violator who tells me the light was yellow...I remind them that upon approaching a light that's been green for some time...it's bound to change soon...and quickly.

One that's been yellow for awhile is the same!

My suggestion is wait to see if you receive a summons and in the meantime...be a bit more careful to reduce the painfully high statistics of accidents directly resulting from those who fail to stop for red lights!

Californias lights are different. They change too fast. Im from the eastcoast and have driven all those states and Ive never been as agitated with lights as much as when I moved to Cali. In Thailand they have lights that countdown (like a crosswalk would) that let you know how many seconds it is until it turns green, yellow or red. Thailand definately does not have as much money as USA and they are more advanced in alot of ways.
Belows a link, make sure its legal in your state so that doesnt happen again. If they want to stop people from running red lights that are so close to being yellow, they need to slow down the time it changes to red, or install "count downers" like thailand has.
