Keep shopping. If its a 4 cylinder NO WAY!
6 cylinder = maybe depending on the year. But really get something with 50,000 or less. Nearing 200,000 is beyond the beginning of nickle and dime repairs!
Good luck.

Yes, 170,000 miles is a lot of miles but until you put in perspective the number alone is meaningless.

What kind of car is it?
How old is the car?
Has the car been well maintained?
Does the car have service records available for major repairs?
How well does the car run today?
What is the price of the car?
Have you had the car inspected by a certified mechanic and what is his assessment of the car's condition?

In a word yes. Any car regardless of make or model that is a lot of miles and 4000 is too much to pay for it.

Depending on the car.......but 4000 is WAY too much for any car with that many miles. I dont care if it was "well maintained" or not. maybe 400. @ a stretch maybe @ most, maybe 1000 but that is it.

yes it is there are way better deals you kind find 170000 the first day you get it something might happen to the car because it got so many miles on it already

Absolutely depends on the car. My wife, step-daughter, and I all drive old Mercedes diesels, and 170K is considered low miles on the older ones.

Yes. i got my first car about 8 months ago and it had 149k. It has several problems now, it was good when we got it. Break problems and whatnot. It was a volvo though. but still, 148k is a bit.

depends on what brand of car it is. If its a honda or foreign car its probably worth it. Go to kbb.com or nada.com and find out what its worth and see if its worth the 4k
