He is about 8 months old..I just noticed yesterday he had a lose stool, which is not too uncommon, but after that I noticed that he had been getting blood all over, like his butt is bleeding??? I am going to feed him some rice and hamburger to help with the lose stool but I am not concerned with that right now, I am more worried about why it looks as though his butt is bleeding, when he poops now there is blood but after he's pooped he gets blood on the carpet when he sits down and what not. He is otherwise acting very normal and energetic and eating normal, and drinking water like normal. What is wrong???

when was the last time you de-wormed him? Is he UTD on his vaccines. Take a stool sample into your vet's office (it must be du jour) and let them know what is happening. He most likely needs to be seen as soon as possible. Oh, and set up a neuter appt. while you are at it, he is due!

Viruses Like Parvo or Giardia (or others) could cause a little blood in the stool, and it is possible, though not common, for him to contract something like this even if he has been vaccinated.

You need to contact you vet right away and tell him what is going on, chances are, your puppy is sick and will only get worse (often very quickly) without treatment.

Your dog is bleeding from an unknown source and you haven't called your veterinarian... why?

At least CALL and ASK the vet - don't waste your time on the internet with a bunch of people who don't have a degree in veterinary medicine.

If it was your child who was bleeding from an unknown source, would you have already contacted the pediatrician? If YOU were bleeding out your butt would you have already talked to a a doctor?

No way to diagnose your dog over the internet. This could be generalised colitis, the cause of which would be impossible for us to say, or it could be gastroenteritis - is the blood fresh and red, or is it dark and dry? Is the dog vaccinated? Wormed?

One thing's for sure, you need to take him to a vet - you don't want to leave this until the dog is really ill i.e stopped eating and/or lethargic, whatever it is will be much harder, and more expensive to treat by that stage.

It sounds serious and if you are concerned you need to take your dog to your vet immediately. If I see my dogs with a soft stool, I wait for their next one to see if it still soft then I call my vet for advice. You should have called your vet on the first sign of blood.
