Religion is the outward expression of belief. It makes reaching God (to a limited extent of course) possible. Belief without some form of expression is egocentric. Religion allows belief to reach out, to God and to others. The Bible tells us that faith without works is dead, useless. The works that make faith alive are of two types - works of Christian charity (toward others), and works of religion (towards God directly).

Alissa outlined the scriptures I was thinking of, but if you do have any other questions, my email is always open as well. We need to be doing our best to be living the commandments while in this life. As for those who don't have the opportunity to marry in this life, there will be a way provided. I'm grateful that God is the judge of us, and not other humans, for we don't see what is in others hearts. Edit: I was taught to question, not just blindly accept what I was told. We are told to pray about the information and follow from there. And not everything said by the Prophet is Prophetic. ASK! is the key.

Religion is false. The best tool the devil has is the intelligence GOD gave man, that coupled with this wonderfully complex universe GOD created, satan would man have believe it is here by chance. Another tool of satan's is religion. Used to confuse man into thinking there are many ways to Heaven when in fact there is only one way and that is through Jesus Christ.

Religous people have to battle with deliberate miss translation and interpretation of their God Rules books. Add to that a few other incumberances such as Mary worship and Jesus worship, and even a minister, and all this stands between you and the God you claim to worship.
If I was this god I would be so ped off that I would blow the lot of you out..!!

When Jesus walked on water, he asked Peter to leave the boat and join him. Peter was unable to do it and Jesus said it was because he lacked faith.
I have heard many Homilies (I am Catholic) that the boat is a metaphor for the Church and that the true meaning of Jesus' beckoning is that a person must at some point grow beyond (the safety of) the Church and act on their faith alone.
So, with that in mind, I think the Gospels indicate we must grow beyond religion to reach God.

No, it pulls me closer if anything. God will punish those who mock him. Therefore we don't have to mock them back, but trust that God will take care of them Himself. The mocking does, of course bug me a lot though.

Are we talking about true religion or man-made religion? If we are talking about man-made religion then the answer is yes. If we are talking about true religion, the religion that Christ taught, then no.
"26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." -James 1:26-27.

More like the lack of god keeps me from reaching god. Just show me proof of this god and then we can talk intelligently about it.
