I am interested about the answer to this question too. After all, why the recent uproar about a teddy bear named Mohammed if there are people named Mohammed?

What if a person called Mohammed turns out to be a theif? Is that an insult to the prophet? Or is it only an insult when a teddy bear is called Mohammed?

The same reason Christians in Spanish speaking countries don't get offended when people are named Jesus. It's a cultural thing. Some people accept those names as simply names - and how beautiful for somebody to be named something so holy!

Namaste!!

I think (just guessing) that the idea is that its a sacred name. So its good to name a PERSON it.

But animals and toys are considered inferior to people, and so its considered offensive to name them Mohammed.

Plus, Muslims can't really get offended - since they're the only ones who actually name people Mohammed. They'd have to get offended at themselves. And that would be silly, even for them.

Your only allowed to nave living things Muhammad. If you named like, your teddy bear Muhammad, they would be offended, and in some parts of the world you could go to jail.

People are not animals, so to speak. So it will be ok. It may even be wrong to name an infidel Muhammad !

uhmmm...not really sure why so better not say it.....but the name "Muhammad" cannot be used as a name for animals and non-living things or such....there was a teacher in a Muslim country that named the class teddy bear "Muhammad"...he was deported and it was a big case....

Its just a name, I mean Muslims name their children after all prophets including moses and Ibrahim and Jesus , and that wouldn't offend Christians or Jews.

Imagine some one naming his dog after ur mam`s name...I dont want to offend u either but when u have special things in life that are sacred to u, u dont want no body and make fun of them ...

non muslims dont understand this and see it as a fanatical behaviour but they should also respect their own beliefs coz nowadays seems to exist no longer nothing pure and worth to be defended

the teddy incident in pakistan or whatever has nothing to do with Islamic teachings. In fact, all those madmen claiming to be muslims and then grow angry when a puppet is named mohammed are ignorant and only look for trouble. In Islam, it is nice to call your son Mohammed, just as it is for a christian to call his son, Jesus, for example.
