Depression is a common mood disorder characterized by lethargy and sadness, as well as a loss of interest or pleasure in normal activities. Severe depression may lead to feelings of worthlessness and thoughts of suicide. A major depressive episode is a prolonged period of at least two weeks during which there is either a depressed mood or the loss of interest or pleasure in nearly all activities.
While depression is an emotion we all have might experience from time to time, severe depression can last for years and can really damage your quality of life because; oftentimes, the person will isolate him/her self from friends and loved ones.
Depression can also be a symptom of other mood disorders so it is also important to get properly diagnosed. It is very important to always take these signs seriously.

Hey sweety, sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well. Adolescence is a hard time in general, but wanting to hurt yourself is really serious. The fact that you mention an increase in sleep is also concerning. Have you had an increase or decrease in appetite? Have you recently stopped doing thiings that you used to enjoy? Are you staying away from your friends/family? Do you have difficulty concentrating? Have you used any illegal drugs or alcohol? Answering yes to any of these questions may indicate depression or another mental health disorder. If I were you I would talk to your parents or an adult that you trust. There is help out there for you and you don't deserve to struggle with these feelings on your own. See a professional if you can. If you ever feel like you are going to hurt yourself get to an emergency room or call 911.

It can range from a feeling of no energy all the way to such an overwhelming sense of unhappiness and defeat that ending it all seems the only way out.Depression may appear to be simple fatigue or a general feeling of ill health. You just don't
feel good and you may not know the reason why The future may seem to hold no promise. There is a sense of loss; a feeling of defeat or of having lost something-or someone-important.Most depression is " reactive" meaning that it is a reaction to an unhappy event. It is natural to have some depression after a loss such as a death of a friend or relative, or after a significant disappointment at home or work. If you have any of these symptoms you should see a doctor.( thoughts of suicide, depression interfering with work or family activities for more than a brief period, or if medicine you may be taking could be causing depression.)

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.

Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

Depression Free Method?

Mine were an inability to sleep, constant worry, very high anxiety level, and I cried all the time. Also, my legs would twitch and prevent me from any possibilty of sleep. It turned out to be anxiety disorder that caused the depression. After 5 years of great counseling and the right meds, I'm in terrific shape. (Anxiety attcks started when I was 4 so that helped to make it clear it was a chemical imbalance.) Severe depression is awful. You're in a totally different place and people can not penetrate the haze you're in. If this is you, get help fast. If it's a friend, do your best to get them help. Any thought sof suicide, get thee to a hospital fast! They can help from there but you have to be honest.

I always watch for the person giving away those things most precious to that person. That is a sure sign of hoping to die. The person will sleep a lot, stay away from friends and family, not bother to put on make-up or (for a guy) will not shave........person may ignore the telephone ringing............BUT, all of these things are done when a person is on drugs, as well. If you know someone who is staying away from friends and family, seems sick or just 'out of it' all the time, who prefers to stay in their room and to just sleep all the time this person CAN get away with this, eats little or maybe eats too much! (both are signs of depression).......find out if this person is on drugs or is severely depressed. People who are severely depressed will, often, actually try to commit suicide, or manage to commit suicide. Sometimes, they take their family members WITH them, by killing them, because they don't want to LEAVE them in a world that they SEE as dark and hopeless.
