I see lots of questions on here along the lines of "if I marry a US citizen, do I automatically become a citizen too?" and "If my baby is born in the US, how long until I automatically become a citizen?"

Wouldn't it make sense to have public service announcements clarifying the law? I'm thinking of something along the lines of Michigan's anti-drunk driving public announcements (which offers a "free ride in a cop car, and an all expense paid stay in jail" in the tones of an "as seen on TV" ad... but that's not all...)

So, would this deter illegal aliens? Or would they scoff at it?

I don't know if it would help, but it wouldn't hurt.

The codes are too numerous and complex to spell out, but I like your idea. Although, anything put on U.S. broadcast is going to be seen by people already in the U.S., and those not legally here have to leave to apply to return if they want things to be done the right way. Anyhow, these 2 sites have most of the info that people would need.

I saw an idea that makes sense: join your local Inter-Neighborhood Services group, and wear your gold on navy blue embroidered "INS" cap everywhere you go.

(By the way, I am not Anti-Immigration. I am anti-criminal. Illegal Aliens are law breakers, unlawful border crossers. Aliens want to keep their own national identity and culture, instead of immigrating legally and pledging allegiance to their new homeland. - My husband is a legal immigrant - we pay thousands of dollars in fees, and submit to paperwork and processing. it is a long, tedious and difficult process, but do it LEGALLY and you will be welcome with open arms.)
