I love the singing! I always read the music and sing the bass part. I'm always disappointed when a song or hymn is in unison :)
Be that as it may, I'm not a raise your hands-swaying kinda guy. Not that I disapprove of others doing it... if they feel moved, then cool.
Of the times that I've played an instrument or in ensemble in a service, yes, sometimes, I'll do a little gigi while I'm drumming or playing bass.... because I feel moved to!
As long as someone doesn't come along and pull my arms into the air for me, I'm all good with it.
Hey, get down and funky for the Lord, if you're so moved!!
:)
peace and regards

To me, singing is a natural way to praise the Lord! Some folks are just shy and maybe they are not comfortable in joining in. I can't help wanting to join in when they are singing about my Lord! Music fills my heart with joy! If people do not like to praise the Lord with song now, what will they do in heaven? Makes you wonder since I am sure praising the Lord will be very big up there! Oh well, maybe they will have other functions? People are so different! I am so happy the Lord loves us all!

The Bible says that we have different gifts. Romans 12:6-8 We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. I think that's one of the problems with Church. It tries to force everyone into the same mold. "Everyone stand! Now sing! Sit! Now pray! Give some money! Now Stand and pray! Sit! Now listen to the Pastor! Make sure you agree with everything he says! Now Stand! Sing! Church dismissed! Don't you feel good now? You don't? Why not?! You must be a bad person if you don't like Church!" Just because the Church says they follow God doesn't mean they actually do. Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

What I enjoyed the most in church services is SINGING in SIGNS. My children sings along in sign also. Of course, we always get lots of attention because we use hands to communicate AND to SING praise songs & hymns. Some people think sign language is just an entertainment instead of praising God in songs. I'm truly thankful to be part of God's family.
Make joyful noises unto the Lord, We make our HANDS joyful unto the Lord!

I am like you in ways because I like to sing because it says in God's Word make a joyful noise unto the Lord all the earth Ps 66:1 When Jesus was born they praised God for His coming into the world to save SINNERS. I even cry while singing because I feel so much that God has bestowed upon me that I can in no way repay but I am so thankful He has blessed me w/even just a voice to sing & say His glorious Name! I feel sorry for those who don't sing maybe they don't have any conviction about being in God's House & how many blessings He has been so generous to give us. They need our prayers.

I love singing in church, too...but I love singing anyway. I always have. Heck, I was singing before I knew how to talk, lol!
And I see nothing wrong with "swaying" or getting into the music.

Singing praise to the LORD is a wonderful experience. But we should always be careful that our songs glorify God, and are not just a form of entertainment.
Psa 66:1 Make a joyful noise unto God, all the earth:
Psa 95:1 Oh come, let us sing unto Jehovah; Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Psa 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; Let us make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
Psa 98:4 Make a joyful noise unto Jehovah, all the earth: Break forth and sing for joy, yea, sing praises.
Psa 98:6 With trumpets and sound of cornet Make a joyful noise before the King, Jehovah.

Congregational singing is encouiraged all throughout the Psalms. It is even commanded that we make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands. God is not interested in the quality of your vocal performance. It's the condition of your heart that matters to Him. Singing praises from a heart of love and adoration to God is what pleases Him.

There's nothing wrong with "getting into" the music, as long as its not just a feelings thing. One can get into the theme song from Titanic, but it is hardly anything else.
However, I know what you mean, in its context, worship music is a wonderful chance to enter into the spiritual presence of God. It is to be embraced. Those that don't join in really are missing out on a tremendous experience. I wouldn't worry too much about them, though. Their reason could be numerous.

Singing in church is fun for me. I like to do it. And sometimes I DO clap and dance and raise my arms. Lots of people at my church really get into the music.
My boyfriend doesn't like to sing or take part in the singing in church. He gets his Spiritual connection in other ways. And that's good too.
Namaste!
