Our wedding and reception is very medieval themed as some of you might know from my previous posts. Our reception is being held outside in a very large garden. We were thinking of setting up some sort of medieval games for the children, out of the 40 guests invited, 14 will be children. Looking for suggestions. We thought perhaps we would take some bow & arrows (nerf tips ofcourse) and set up targets... or a bean bag toss through the dragons eyes and mouth... maybe even some hula hoops tossed over some paper mache dragons? We talked to some of the older teenagers who said they would be happy to supervise. My family is very artistic and crafty so we will do these ourselves.

how refreshing it is to find a bride who actually welcomes families with children to her wedding, and who is putting great thought into entertaining her guests and not worrying about how to get people to give cash gifts and not 'useless or cheap' presents.
your ideas are wonderful and your guests will be so impressed with your creativity.

I think that is great! Gives the kids something to do where they won't hurt each other. and keeps them out of everyone else's hair.
Perhaps juggling and I was trying to think of some way a joust. Perhaps those horses that are sticks and a straw dummy to hit. Or brass rings to collect on your sword. Whoever gets all the rings, "wins".
For the girls, maybe like ribbon dancing or a craft. What time of year is your wedding? Maybe they could make a garden ornament (like a wind chime or wind sock)
Perhaps before the wedding starts, they could run around the garden to scare the bad spirits off the ground (like cleansing the field at harvest time).
I love bow and arrow games. I think thats such a great idea.

Your guests will love a medieval scene with a princess and prince with the head cut out so they can take pictures with their kids!
A station where kids could decorate their own crowns or coat of arms would be cute too! Crowns are easy to make with pipe cleaners and curling ribbon for girls

I like the beanbag toss...a bit safer then the arrow (even if they are nerf)...maybe some face painting or some kind of craft table where the kids can make those halo things?

My mother is a lesbian and to tell you the truth this is how I feel!! The Bible says to "Honor your mother.....", and I would do that by attending to show her I love her and yes in a why it would bother me ( because I am a Christian)! I would attend the reception for awhile and then give an excuse and leave and hope she understand!

My first thought was a Maypole! I'm not sure if it would be easy to set up, but it's one of my favorite renaissance-y things! (not really sure if it IS actually from the renaissance times, but I always associate the two!) lol.
Good luck!

Banana jousting, for the kids. We did this at my son's birthday party, and the kids had a blast. Had black garbage bags with armholes and head hole, so clothes didn't get messed up.
