Any organization that demands that you accept without question is dangerous, whether it's religion, government, educational institutes, workplaces, etc. Everything mankind has ever learned has come from questioning; why, what if, how? To demand that everything be accepted at face value and say that questioning is wrong prevents learning and progress, and I can't think of anything more dangerous than that.

Only recently has this been true, name some wars caused by religion. All major wars are fought because of territorial disputes, greed, aggression, political ideologies, and dictatorial sabre rattling. Our Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexico, Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, or Gulf War had nothing to do with religion for example.

First, if organized religion was not dangerous then it is not being done correctly. Christians in particular should be dangerous.

But secondly, no most wars are fought over different ideologies and money, not religion. Religion is just an easy cover excuse for greed.

It is the most dangerous thing in the world today.

For one thing, it causes divisiveness. Monotheistic religions, by definition, are intolerant of other monotheistic religions. One cannot deny that this fact alone has caused some of the bloodiest wars in the history of mankind. Yes, there have been other reasons for fighting wars, but religion, it cannot be denied, has been the cause for most of them.

But what makes religion truly dangerous in our modern times, is the quality of our weapons, as compared to what we used in the past.

There are two very frightening things one must consider, when it comes to religious wars.

1. Most of the people involved in these religions believe they will go to a paradise place after they die. Therefore, they have little value for their own lives, or that of their families. If they do "god's" will, they and their family will all go to paradise together.

2. Wars are not fought with swords and shields anymore. Nuclear weapons are a very real, and very accessible, doomsday threat. The question is not IF a religious extremist gets his hands on nuclear weapons... the question is WHEN!

Consider someone like Pat Robertson getting his finger on "the button". Consider someone like Osama Bin Laden. That's two examples of prominent religious figures that have made it very clear that they CANNOT WAIT for the world to end, and for their god to take them to paradise.

And people don't understand why atheists care about religion.

One day, if we survive long enough, the history books will thank atheists for standing up to this insanity when we did.

Intolerance is a risky and ridiculously stupid component, even nevertheless it is not purely taught by religions. this is for sure a human subject. you will see it every time 2 diverse communities of human beings come to a decision to have interplay, once you're paying interest ;)

No, but I think that some of the nut jobs that seem to gravitate toward it are.

Take away religion and the nutters would still fight, they'd just use a different reason

Yes! Especially when it's used to run for political office. This election seems to just be a referendum for Jesus! Last I checked ,He wasn't running! It gets so disgusting when the candidates openly pander to the religious fanatics. All of claiming to to be religious, while supporting war and torture in the name of God!

Yes.

Organized religions are political parties.

Organized non-profit religions can be dangerous as when they crusade/holy war/jihad/burn heretics at the stake/tell members how to vote.
