My 8 month old cat began squinting this morning. He and his brother play rough, so I assumed it had gotten scratched in play. Since he is a very dark cat with dark eyes, it's hard to see much. I did notice that his eye is a bit watery, and perhaps a little bit of a white (pus?) discharge in a very small amount is leaking out of the inner corner of his eye.

The vet isn't open yet, so I thought I'd get some answers on here. How do I know if this is an eye infection or a scratch? What can I do to help heal it? Thanks ahead of time for your answers! =)

If pus is present, it's an infection - pus is a sign of infection.

It could be an eye infection CAUSED by a scratch. All you can do at the moment is wipe the eye with moist cotton wool - don't start putting any else on it. Just keep it wiped, and take the cat to the vet when you can so they can give you antibiotics if necessary.

my cat had a scratch but there was definitely not any puss from his eye. either way...........i had to put an antibiotic in his eye 2-3 times a day. when he was checked sometime between 7-10 days i was told that it was still mild and to continue. so, i'd say i was putting that stuff in for about 2-1/2-3 weeks.

Do you find any (like sleep)goop in his eyes? When I first got my kitty, we thought she has a cut, but it turned out to be a very bad eye cold... I think you should take your cat to the vets, cause if its an infection, your kitty could end up blind.

If its a scratch the doc 'll give you some drops to routinely put in.
Infection will be handled the same...

Ultimately, stay calm he'll be fine.
