Taking pictures in cold weather is tricky. If the camera is too warm when you expose it to the cold, the lens will fog up, and you will have to wait until the temperature adjusts. If the camera is too cold, it wont work. Keep the camera in your jacket pocket, and don't plan on being outside too long. In available light conditions (SLR), set the ASA to 400 or faster. If it's a digital camera, it should have a specific setting, but you will probably need a tripod. Using flash will destroy what you're trying to photograph.

Usually the lens will fog when going from cold to hot, so protect your camera when you come back inside. Either let it warm gradually, say on a porch or unheated room, or seal it in a Ziploc bag and let the condensation form on the bag instead of the camera.

Keep a spare battery warm in your pocket so you can switch if necessary. If using film, wind slowly to avoid static or breaking brittle cold film. Keep the camera in a coat pocket between shooting times. Also protect your fingers from the cold to avoid frostbite. Dress in layers, including your hands and feet. It is easy to get too cold when you are concentrating on getting the shot!

For dim light use a tripod, same as any occasion when shooting in dark situations.

I experienced taking picture in dark place with bad weather without flash on canon. The picture was perfect then after i took the same pic with flash it was worse. Remember not to keep your camera in warm place like bag but always outside in your hand so the camera always keep the same temperature
