The seven deadly virtues
Those ghastly little traps
Oh no, my liege, they were not meant for me
Those seven deadly virtues
Were made for other chaps
Who love a life of failure and enuie.

Take Courage, now there's a sport
An invitation to a state of rigor mort.
And Purity, a noble yen
And very restful every now and then.
I find Humility means to be hurt.
It's not the Earth the meek inherit, it's the dirt
Honesty is fatal, it should be taboo
Diligence a fate I would hate
If Charity means giving, I give it to you
And Fidelity is only for your mate.

You'll never find a virtue
Unstatusing my quo
Or making my Beelzebubble burst.
Let others take the high road
I will take the low
I cannot wait to rush in
Where angels fear to go
With all their seven deadly virtues -
Free and happy little me has not been cursed.

Yes there are 7 virtues to go with the 7 sins. I don't know why they are called the seven "deadly" sins other than that they are all bad. The seven virtues are the opposite of the seven vices. All 14 were derived from the Psychomatia, a poem written in 410 CE (aka 410 AD).

The virtues: The vices:
Chastity Lust
Temperance Gluttony
Charity Greed
Diligence Sloth
Patience Wrath (Anger)
Kindness Envy
Humility Pride

Traditionally, the seven deadly sins are pride, covetousness, lust, envy, gluttony, anger, and sloth.

Exactly what is sin? The truth is, many are not even sure anymore. Formerly, men spoke of the “seven deadly sins”: pride, covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy and sloth. Today, these traits seem commonplace. Pride is encouraged in such things as national pride or racial pride. It is hard to see how the consumer societies in many wealthy countries could continue without a measure of covetousness, envy and gluttony among the populace. Adultery, homosexuality and fornication—varieties of lust—are tolerated or encouraged, even by some religious leaders. And sloth is actively encouraged by modern inventions such as television.

these are virtues you may want to consider., at Galatians 5:19-23 it first talks about the bad ones and then what is profitable for us........

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, and they are fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, idolatry, practice of spiritism, enmities, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, contentions, divisions, sects, envies, drunken bouts, revelries, and things like these. As to these things I am forewarning YOU, the same way as I did forewarn YOU, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s kingdom.
On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. .

The deadly sins are as the previous posters have described. the balancing virtues as described by Pope Gregory are.

Faith is belief in the right things (including the virtues!).
Hope is taking a positive future view, that good will prevail.
Charity is concern for, and active helping of, others.
Fortitude is never giving up.
Justice is being fair and equitable with others.
Prudence is care of and moderation with money.
Temperance is moderation of needed things and abstinence from things which are not needed.

I visited Rosslyn chapel in Edinburgh recently and was gobsmacked to learn the origional virtue of charity was greed making it the only thing that can be considered both a sin and a virtue. From that point I have thought I is okay to be selfish as long as you give in equal doses. Charity is said to begin at home and again indicates the need to think of yourself as well as others. Everything in moderation. I was impressed to discover that I must say. All the others are opposites of eachother

The seven sins / virtues are:

Sloth / Diligence
Pride / Humility
Envy / Kindness
Gluttony / Temperance
Greed / Charity
Lust / Chastity
Wrath / Patience

According to the theory, all sins will be your eventual downfall, either in the literal sense (gluttony - heartattack) because you aren't living a virtuous life and taking care of yourself, or in the spiritual sense where you are living a bad life, and will not go to heaven

envy
greed
anger

pride
sloth
gluttony

They are the basis of all of the other sins. Just about anything out there can be traced back to those seven causes. That is why they are "deadly."

They are called the "deadly" sins because it you live an unhealthy lifestyle, it will eventually be the death of you.

Glutton: If you eat too much it can kill you
Sloth: If you don't exercise it can kill you to be inactive
Wrath: If you stay mad all the time, it will kill you mentally

Do you understand what I am getting at?

These "deadly" sins don't just kill you physically, they can also kill you mentally as well.

Cheers

Never mind the virtues... the deadly sins can kill you if you don;t behave and pay your tithes abnd offering as promised... God the Holy ghost is not one bit sympathetic to the sin of "lying to the Holy Ghost"...

Act 5:1-11 ...Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God.”....

God the Holy Ghost kills and God's people will bury you without telling any of your "loved ones"...
