It was certainly good for me. I took a few courses from them years ago and it has served me very well in life. And they do send disaster teams everyplace. Their work in narcanon and criminon has great success rates. Not to mention the literacy projects they support.
Of course the stuff people post here about it would be terribly evil. But since I didnt see or hear any of that stuff Im not real big on giving it credence.

Evil is a strong word. I think that any religion started by a science fiction writer is suspect. From what I have heard and read about this "religion" I for one do not catagorize it as holy.
It has it's roots in alien worship and seems to take advantage of those who are easily led to believe that the mind is in a way God.
I would say it evil if you look at the money trail this organization leaves behind. Thousands have been turned into "slaves" of scientology. They give all the material things they have to the group in exchange for lessons? What religion charges it's members for worhip privledges? While it is common for churches to solicite funds, I cannot think of one that actually takes all of it's parishoners finances and then makes them work it off.
The Force is the only true religion!!

I am in California surrounded by them.
I do not see any evil. What people point at seems to be about the same as any other religion. In fact, if anything, their score seems better. Any religion which has been around from 1950 to 2000 and the "horrors" have single names that everyone seems to remember then that is a pretty good score. Many other religions have whole compounds of people dying off or going broke. Scientology seems to have one person maybe killed by them and one person maybe broke by them.
The ones Ive met seem happy and open (and way too focused for my taste).

i'm not sure if i have the full meaning of scientology... but... its funny how.. the bible is actually very scientific... some or most of the reason that people believe that the bible is just not a bunch of guys writing stuff down.. has to do with science... the bible said the world was round a long long time ago before Columbus 'figured' that one out.
For example, at a time when most people believed that the earth was flat, the Bible spoke of “the circle [or, sphere] of the earth.”% (Isaiah 40:22) And over 3,000 years before the famous scientist Sir Isaac Newton explained that the planets are held in empty space by gravity, the Bible poetically stated that ‘the earth is hanging upon nothing.’ (Job 26:7) Consider also this poetic description of the earth’s water cycle, recorded some 3,000 years ago: “All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again.” (Ecclesiastes 1:7, New International Version) Yes, the Creator of the universe is also the Author of the Bible.
the bible talks about many things that we later 'found out' and we called ourselves genius for figuring it out... all you had to do was open a bible. :)

Good. It's the opposite of evil. There won't ever be a president who's a Scientologist because our society is just not that advanced. Mormonism -- they already have big problems with that; but along comes Scientology and the scientolophobes (some of them are online right now) will run for their crucifixes or they'll bond with walking goats who can talk before they'll elect a Scientologist who can actually make things better.

I don't recall anyone killing people in the name of Scientology so it is clearly not as bad as some other religions but the fact that they condemn all use of psychopharmecology clearly disqualifies them from being good.

I don't believe in good and evil. It's expensive, complex and fairly weird, but no weirder than some of the other stuff people believe.

Evil.
It's based on the plot for a science fiction novel which was probably conceived on a combination of LSD, meth, coke, speed, and crack.
It's a money-making machine for those in the higher echelons of its ranks, and they make their money by duping their followers (including prominent celebrities like Tom Cruise) to invest lots of money and publicity in them.
In short, it's a fraud.
