Hi Im cooking for 9 this year. I plan to prepare all the veggies on xmas eve......then put the turkey on when i get up in the morning... Sit down work out what you are planning to cook and then you can see what can be prepared in advance.....All veggies can be pealed and prepared and left in cold water over night for example...

I am up early every day, Christmas day included. My wife and 21 y.o.daughter like to rot in bed. After a cup of tea, I get the turkey sorted and into the oven. More tea then prepare all the veg into saucepans of water. More tea and a sit down. Get the table ready, then prepare starters into the fridge. The girls may have risen by now so it's prezzie time. They will then retire to the bathroom and wardrobes. By lunchtime, I will have all the washing up done except for the plates and cutlery. Wash up, and put cold cuts, sausage rolls, mince pies etc onto paper plates on the table so it's help yourself from there on with no washing up. Belch, break wind, and study the back of my eyelids for the rest of the afternoon. I really do not know what all the fuss is about. It is only another roast dinner after all.---------Have a great Christmas folks.

I prepare everything on Christmas Eve and it is just a matter of cooking it all on the day.

I might peel and cut vegetables etc the day before. Things like double stuffed potatoes are great to make ahead. I pretty much leave as little as possible for Christmas day so that I too can enjoy the holiday. Vegetables are cleaned and ready to steam, desserts are baked and the Turkey prepped to go into the oven.

I cook the turkey christmas eve throughout the night

i prep all my veg christmas eve too

Best tip for keeping a turkey moist .. place a damp tea towel over it .. it really works

This is my survival strategy:

I do it all on Christmas morning - it's only a Sunday dinner with extra bits. I'ts nice to take refuge in the kitchen from time to time while everybody else goes crazy.
Drink of sherry about 11 o'clock.
Don't do a starter (who's going to have room for the all important PUD!)
Buy the chipolata things, the stuffing, cranberry sauce & the pudding ready made.
Don't bother with brandy sauce, just serve cream.
My mum always brings the cheese & biscuits but we don't get round to them till about 5pm anyway!.
Nobody else is allowed in the kitchen!
The only thing I nearly forget to do on Christmas Eve is defrost the meat!

i prepare all my veg the day before. and get the bird ready the night before. i have sometimes even cooked it the night before to save time the next day. you could if you wanted get everything ready, stuffing, pig in blankets, veg meat and whatever else you are having the evening before and then enjoy christmas morning with the family. planing is the best way to go. and my cooker has timer on it. so i set the timer the night before and the oven comes on when its time, even if i am not there.

Christmas Eve:

Peel the veggies and leave in cold water. Make stuffings, roll into balls, don't bother stuffing a turkey it takes longer to cook that way. Wrap streaky bacon around chipolata sausages and put in dish ready to cook. Make bread sauce. Make Christmas day desserts, eg Trifle. Or boil pudding. Make brandy butter or sauce. If you can, lay the table, put out condiments in covered dishes (cranberry sauce, mustard) make sure glasses are polished and no finger marks! Fold napkins get out crackers. Make sure wine is chilling for the following day. That's about it Christmas eve!

If using a frozen turkey, make sure you take it out in plenty of time to thaw properly EG, Saturday to be thawed for Monday night to prepare for the oven.
Cover bird under skin with butter/and/or cover skin with steaky bacon, cover with foil.
If cooking a ham, boil Christmas eve, peel of skin, criss cross fat, cover with mustard and brown sugar or your fav topping and then roast off Christmas day.

Christmas morning, change all the water on the veg and cover with fresh, add salt.
Put turkey in, par boil potatoes and parsnips if using for roasties. an hour to go take foil off turkey to crisp skin, leave to rest for 20 mins after cooking to 'relax' before carving. Cook other veggies, heat up bread sauce, make gravy - pour yourself a well-earned drink and enjoy yourself!!!

i normally cook my turkey christmas eve and get all the veg ready so all that needs doing christmas day is switch oven and hobs on
