In what ways have World Religions influenced the way you think about religion? Why is it important to learn about other peoples' beliefs and attitudes?

Religion is a reformative factor. Every prophet brought reforms and moral order to the society of his time.

But most people consider the rituals of a religion not as the
means but and end itself. It is Islam, which clearly says God
does not look at your verbal claims or your faces. (pious looking), but He looks at your hearts and deeds. A true
believer is God's best creature because he is beneficial to
the socieety at large.

Just think, anybody who prays God cannot be a cheat or
corrupt person. He spends so much time in His company. Islam calls people to prayer 5 times, so that people could become pious and God fering. Compared to Islam, Judaism and Christianity are part time religions.

It's important to learn to see through other people's eyes, with their understanding of the world. If you can do that, you are using abstract thinking skills that most people never develop.

It's important to see how vastly different people in different places can be. One tribe doesn't know where one person ends and the other begins. They think of the whole tribe as a single body. Another doesn't diaper their babies because the mothers know when to take them to the bushes. When the white scientists studying them asked them how they knew when the baby had to go, the women looked at them like they were crazy - they had no concept of the kind of separation between mother and child that would prevent knowing.

Mostly, though, I've seen that religions that focus on a Mother Goddess tend to be peaceful and the few pockets of civilization that have kept to the ways of the Goddess live happily and in harmony with Nature. They've shown me that peace is possible - that Westerners are taught that people are naturally violent or evil and it's not true. The human race lived for many millennia without violence, hierarchy, poverty, greed or selfishness. It is entirely possible for us to live that way again.

Wel, the first thing that you notice is that most main religions have something in common... *Good* actions are rewarded and such. I think that has made me concentrate on the things that are common and ignore those teeny tiny not as important parts. It's important to know about other religions because that gives you a base on which you can found a good, not ignorant, conversation. Plus, you don't feel as alienated. Less violence, more talk. Need I continue..?

Go far back enough in history, read enough 'sacred texts' and you will find that the apparent divisions only exist in the minds of those who use 'religion' to control others.

Wars are caused by people feeling the need to protect their religion, but the Truth is, and needs no one to protect it.

'Beliefs' and 'attitudes' are not KNOWING and UNDERSTANDING which are far superior and far more important.

Jesus tells us what is a good religion and what is a false religion

Matthew 7:15-20.......  “Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to YOU in sheep’s covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves. By their fruits YOU will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they?  Likewise every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit;  a good tree cannot bear worthless fruit, neither can a rotten tree produce fine fruit.  Every tree not producing fine fruit gets cut down and thrown into the fire.  Really, then, by their fruits YOU will recognize those [men].

If we understand the gospels are the true World of God, education of other religions can make us better able to witness. Paul points out others would come with a new “gospel” and we know too false prophets and false teachers will arise. We are able to point out the discrepancies when we know the truth.

Galatians 1 1Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) 2And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: 3Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: 5To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 6I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

2 Peter 2:1
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

It is important to have a depth of knowledge about other people's beliefs in order to refute them with their own religious scriptures (those that have texts).

I am a Christian..........and I have dabbled a little bit in the study of other religions.

It has taught me that the Bible is correct.........and reliable......and that all other religions do not save us from our sins.

Sad but true...........all other faiths rely on works....whereas we rely on the finished work of Christ

They make me realize that religion is a destructive force that seperates humanity and justifies death and destruction. You must always know the enemy.
