He constatly has big bass thumping through my room and no matter how often me and his other neighbour say, he still refuses to turn it down. We are uni students and I have assignments due but I can't concentrate because of his music. We've tried a house meeting to no avail. He also plays his music late into the night so I never get more then 2 hours sleep. Does anyone else have this problem? Any advice? Thanks

It sounds like you have tried a number of ways to resolve this issue. Does the place you live in have a landlord or someone that can enforce some kind of rules? If these rules are broken then your housemate can be evicted. Also, as the noise is going late into the night, you can call the police.

Good luck, i know how you feel, I have neighbours that do exactly the same thing...

It sounds like you really can't talk about it with him. However, I would try talking with him again. Tell him how serious this is, and that you need to be studying. Offer to buy him ear phones (I think a couple of bucks are worth good grades).

If this still doesn't help, tell him that you pay for part of electricity and it is a group decision for how that electricity is used. Whine if you have to. If that still doesn't work, then play dirty.

Try getting one of your old CDs that are way out of style or even really bad music like Britney Spears and keeping it just as loud, if not louder, than his. Steal all of his CDs and lock them in a box, put them back in his room so that he can't accuse you of stealing and tell him he can have the key when he promises to turn it down or use head phones.

After that, I would just cut the cord or turn off the electricity.

Take it to the dean, or whoever your resident tutor is. If you complain they will get a warning and will then be evicted if they fail to comply. I would suggest telling him your intentions first though, that way he can't complain that you went behind his back, or that you never mentioned it to him. If this fails then call the police. Its a last resort, but one that usually works.

The less legal/polite options include hiding his stereo, killing the power, pushing your speakers against the wall the second his music stops and start blasting heavy bass back, supergluing all his powerpoints in the off position, or supergluing the volume control on his stereo to low.

Good luck

only tell them you could purely stand Christmas song in December. tell them it incredibly is incredibly stressful you. you could convey the style you experience without asserting "cram it!" you may extra advantageous say it suitable till now you will not be able to take it any further. anybody has issues that annoy them, they are going to understand. in the event that they don't, and that they are that unusual, you will the two ought to stay with it or hit upon a sparkling housemate.

Seriously: Take the powercord, or better: the speaker cable.

Make it clear to him that the next time he wil find the cord cut into 55 little pieces.
And don't bluff - really do it.

Right now it's a battle of will - who has the strongest will?

When he finds out how serious you are about it he will learn.

I would start looking for another place to stay!! I love music, but enough is ENOUGH!!! School is so important and you have to be able to concentrate. Find somewhere to go that you know your room mate is interested in a education too! Good Luck!! I feel for you!!!

This isn't really the POLITE thing to do, but I say blast some music of your own & give him a taste of his own medicine.

Country will usually do the trick :)

Who's name is on the lease? Legally evict him if he doesn't straighten up. Tell him to quit being a prick or he has 30 days to find somebody else who will put up with his BS.

Wait until he is asleep or has something due and give him a dose of his own medicine. Maybe then he will get the point.

Start to flip the breaker and don't pay the electric bill. No really if he is going to be so selfish then you need to throw stereo out and claim you were robbed.
