I was fired recently. Canned, outsourced, dumped, told to clear out, sent packing, (you get the idea!)

Anyway, I did not leave a happy camper. They told me to clear out and gave me 5 minutes to get my stuff together. After that I was walked out by a security guard and handed my last paycheck.

I got a job offer yesterday but I am not to excited about the boss and the company. But it is in my field and pays about what I was making in my last job.

To get back in the workforce after being termininated, would you accept the first job offered to you?

Grab it and don't pull what you did the last time.

What are your chances of getting another offer here? Do you think you have a good chance of getting another offer in the next few weeks?

If the answer is yes, don't accept this offer just yet, especially if you know that you won't be able to get along with the boss. If the answer is no, go ahead and take the job, but keep looking around to see if a better opportunity arises.

If you absolutely can't stand the new company and can't stand the new boss, don't take this job regardless. It's better to wait another month for a job with a group of people that you can get along with than it is to start working with a group that's going to drive you crazy for the next several months. You can always take a part-time job to keep your savings from going completely through the floor while you're searching.

You might also ask yourself if it's time to look at another field of work. Were you suffering from burnout at the last job? Is the idea of doing the same old same old making this new offer less attractive?

Unless it's really bad, given that it's about the same salary as you were making, I'd probably grab it unless there are a lot of jobs available in your field these days. Finding a career type job can take awhile. If you have something else that you've interviewed for an looks good, see if you can hold the first offer off for a week or so, and talk to the other people and tell them you have to make a decision on an offer, do they know when they'll be deciding.

I understand this issue, and I even weighed the decision when I was offered a position of records coordinator in July 2009. The problem was the unemployment I earned paid more than the job did, so I turn it down. The good news came in August 2009 when I started at Georgia State University and found the ideal place and career field for me. I am very thankful for what I have now.

I have turned down a couple because they were not what I wanted, along with a couple other factors. I made this mistake before and was miserable for the year I worked there. I finally quit that job. Honestly, if you can make ends meet or are willing to take a part time position somewhere until you can find what you want, I would do that. If you are already unhappy about the company, chances are it's not going to improve once you get there because you already have them pegged a certain way.

Accept the new position and keep looking for a new job. After a few months with the new company the boss may change or you may try to get into another department.

Yeah I would...
well until the next offer comes anyway

just like Bob says: get the job!
having that security, you can look after a better, more suiting job.

but it sounds like you did something really wrong at your last company...
