Christian. Church of England predominated but there was as strong puritan presence. Quakers were also strong. Of course some chose to emigrate to New England.
Later Stuarts were Roman Catholic and that led to the revolution in 1688 when William of Orange came to UK with Mary. And so began the difficulties in Ireland.

You mean, I assume, King James the First who had the Bible translated into English for the Anglican Church.
