Historically Babylon is near Baghdad, Iraq today. Presently it is still uninhabited as it has been ever since it was destroyed around 500 b.c. This full filled the prophecy in Isaiah 14:22-23. Another prophecy about its destruction is Isaiah 13:19-22. In this passage it mentions that Babylon will never again be inhabited. Thus the city in Revelation cannot be the old Babylon, but rather it is pointing to the city of Rome.

babylon mentioned in revelation talks about a religioous power that resemble the empire of babylon.. its a symbol used one of many to identify a last day church that would have a imaaaaaage spiritually and other wise to the apostate nation of babylon as out lined in DANIELS gospel.. . .
too many forget that revelation is mostly symbolic and its written in such away as to confuse those down through time who may of wanted to destroy this book if it openly decared truths they didnt want known,.

The later name given to Babel. This city of renown was located along the Euphrates River on the Plains of Shinar approximately 870 km (540 mi) E of Jerusalem and some 80 km (50 mi) S of Baghdad. The ruins of Babylon extend over a vast area in the form of a triangle. Several mounds are scattered over the area. Tell Babil (Mujelibe), in the northern part of the triangle, preserves the ancient name and is located about 10 km (6 mi) NE of Hilla, Iraq.
