A God of choice that allows for mistakes. A forgiving God that cares for the downtrodden and champions the weak. I am not saying that this is what is manifest in today's newsreports. But is it possible?

You ask a question that is so obvious. John 3:16-------- But God allows for mistakes by giving people the ability to deny the Son.

There can and there is. Don't look for God in the media; turning off the TV and actually reading the Bible (not listening to some TV preacher's personal take on the Bible) is what you need.
Start with the Gospel of John chapter 10 and go from there.

There has always been a God of Love,"The God" our Creator of both the heavens and Earth.He loves all His children (His creation),He may not love what we are doing,however that is why we all have freewill during this age of the flesh.It's so we can decide who we will follow,the forces of good or the forces of evil.And yes, He does forgive us when we sin (and we all do),"IF" we ask for forgiveness.That is why God does not interfere in our lives, it's so when we stand before Him during the Great White Throne judgement that we can't blame it on Him for interfering in our lives.We have to do it our way, hopefully following the principles and laws that He has laid out for us in the Bible.It is our roadmap if we choose to follow it, if not then alot of us become lost in the ways of this world,which is influenced greatly by .........you guessed it satan. Stop listening to what man says (society in general), and start listening to what God says.Have you read it, I have, and it is truly one of the most fasinating,enlightening,and prophetic books in print today.
With that I'll plant a seed, will it find fertile ground?, will it germinate?, will it grow?. Only God knows that.

the need of some people to have a god or idol is interesting, especially in times of modern technology
instead of a rock taking your food and absorbing the light of a candle ( a focus point)
you can (and do) use Yahoo Answers as a Virtual God where you can talk, ask questions and get answers much quicker than a stone god or god of love
love is so much more than a 'god'
it's the energy between you and I after initiating contact and then keeping the connection out of respect and kindness

That's called a Goddess, sweetie.
god = war, genocide, slavery, rape, incest, poverty, etc.
Goddess = peace, love, social justice, equality, harmony with Nature.
That's not based on opinion - it's based on history and archeology. You just have to know which books to read.
