Only if they read "helper publications" written by Jim Jones / David Koresh / Branch Davidian-type theologies or Mohammed or Joseph Smith or Mary Baker Eddy or Ellen G. White or Benny Hinn or Joel Osteen and some others.

The safest thing to read all by itself is the Bible.

No, some of them will just realize that its a lot of meaningless junk. It all depends on their level of sanity. Of course, some "helper publications" may actually tend to push some people towards the Jim Jones zone, it depends on the publication.

No. The Holy Spirit is more than a Helper. He is a Teacher also. Those men that you mentioned are false prophets and the Bible tells us about them in the latter days. They are increasing so be careful of the men that you let lead you. You are better off letting the Holy Spirit lead you as you read the Word of God. If at anytime a man starts controlling your entire life - back off.

Nathaniel Hawthorne was quoted as saying that if just one unlettered soul can attain salvation through grace then he would not be remiss in saying that one act makes all the theological sermons and countless books nothing more than a huge act of impertinence.

No it is not necessarily a given. I do not use any "helper publications", and I am fine.

Just let me go stir my kool-aid real quick. I'll be right back.....

most of the time, yes. Trying to rationalize biblical mass genocide and rape is something that can be hard for a solo no cause person.
