for walking shoes New Balance rated best by Consumer Reports and other reviews. Hikeing boots store brands from Eastern Mt Sports and LL bean are the best.

I am an avid hiker and I would recommend taking a walking shoe and a pair of hiking boots. You will want the walking shoes for the paved portion and the boots for the trail. As far as walking shoes I wear Asics they have a wide variety and are very comfortable.
