i moved my 16 month old son into a single bed because he had started to climb out of the cot anytime he didnt want to be in it..anyways..the first night he cried because he got up whenever he wanted to..and me or hubby would pick him and put him straight back in bed.. it took like 30 mins to get him to finally fall asleep (neither of us gave in, we just kept putting him back in bed)..and tonight..when i put him in bed..he went to sleep straight away and didnt get up once... was this just luck..or is he used to it already?..

how the hell did a 16 month old climb out of a cot?! (sounds like a future gymnast on your hands) i guess if you get him at just the right time when he is tired enough but not overtired he will sleep anywhere, especially if he was used to being put in the cot awake and going off to sleep by himself. my friend has recently put her daughter in a single bed and it went better than expected, she was about 18 months old and she adjusted to it pretty quickly as she had been used to going off to sleep by herself.

Great job, sonds to me like he knows that you mean business. It will do him no good to keep getting up because he will just be put right back. I'm sure the first night was just because it was a new thing. Now he knows this is his bed.

There's really no telling until tonight when you do it again. All kids are different, you know? I had a friend whose son would get up and get up and get up and she seriously would try for hours and hours until she just would give up. So consider yourself lucky and stick to it.

I think it was because you were so consistent the first night. if a child knows what's expected, they learn quickly.

Cross your fingers....The first time he has a cold or doesn't feel good you will have your hands full but he will learn...sounds like a smart kid!
