Imagine what the Blessed Virgin Mary must have felt when she was "overcome" by the power of God the Holy Ghost! She was a teenager in full puberty very eagerly submitting to the advances of the proxy agent Saint Gabriel that God the Holy Ghost sent to fix a deal with her. So as soon as Saint Joseph leaves the house on an errand and the Blessed Virgin Mary stays home alone, God the Holy Ghost “overcomes” her in a most divine copulation of unprotected sex ever recorded in religious history resulting in her pregnancy. Today, the Holy Ghost would have landed in jail, but in those days it was common to blame any questionable pregnancy on a deity of some sort. That is why none of the Early Church Fathers ever questioned the "virgin" birth. They claimed that a lot of Jewish girls were eagerly expecting to mother the God Messiah, but that only Mary was the lucky one! Also, the Bible says that God came down from Heaven on several occasions and let a lot of women pregnant, some of them more than once. In the case of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Divine Pregnancy story improves with time. Because of the Holy Trinity connection, the Blessed Virgin Mary became recognized as the Mother of God conceived without the original sin. Always virgin! Her hymen was not torn neither during the intercourse with God the Holy Ghost, nor during pregnancy or at delivery! That is a miracle verified by Saint Salome that bona fide science can’t deny! In 1950 it became a Church dogma that she ascended bodily into Heaven! Now she is the Queen of Heaven!

Gabriel answers that the power of the Highest, in the Person of the Holy Spirit, will overshadow her. The word overshadow means "to cover with a cloud," like the cloud of Shekinah glory (Exodus 16:10, 19:9, 24:16, 34:5, 40:34) or the cloud of transfiguration (Matthew 17:5, Mark 9:7, Luke 9:34).
i. This cloud is a visible manifestation of the glory and presence of God; this means that the same power of God that was with Moses and others in the Old Testament is now going to do a unique work in the life of Mary.
ii. "This delicate expression rules out crude ideas of a ‘mating’ of the Holy Spirit with Mary." (Morris)
c. Because this will be the manner of His conception, He is a Holy One (different from all others), and He will be called the Son of God.
i. This doesn’t have the same impact on us today, when many people claims to be a "son of god." But Mary (and all other Jewish people from her culture) knew what this meant: this child would be equal to God (John 5:18).
ii. Jesus did not become the Son of God; He was called the Son of God, recognizing His nature from all eternity.
d. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age: With such an amazing promise, Gabriel also brings evidence - Elizabeth is pregnant. If God can do that, He can do what He promised for Mary.
i. "Though believers are satisfied with the bare word of God, yet they do not disregard any of his works which they find to be conducive to strengthen their faith." (Calvin)
e. God is able to do such great works for Elizabeth, and Mary, and us, because with God nothing shall be impossible. More literally, one could translate this for no word of God shall be powerless. God will absolutely perform what He has said.

Well the catholic church believes in her a lot, and you see her statue and picture all over society. She was JESUS mother on the planet in the human race but in Heaven he is the Son of God. So Mary became conceived through the Holy spirit and she never had sex. That's why She's called the Virgin Mary. So Jesus was the Son of Mary but they always call him the Son of God, at least in the Catholic Church !

Mary was just the vessel for the Son of God to be born as a man so he could be tempted. I believe the Bible says that Jesus Christ is the only way to God. Not by praying to Mary, or asking her to pray for us. You can go straight to God in prayer as long as you say in the Name of Jesus Christ. He is the mediator between the Father and us, not Mary.

The Virgin Mary was the Immaculate Conception to give birth to God's son Jesus Christ. We celebrate this event tomorrow, Dec. 8th. The reason the statement says, "Son of God" is because God takes a higher precedence over Mary. We honor Mary, not worship her.

She was a virgin at the time and was eventually the mother of God and a vessel at the time of conception. Son of God simply denoted that He would be more than simply a son of man. Although He was considered both.

I'm christian and I agree. I don't agree with the catholic faith doing 2 hours of Hail Mary's rather than praying to God, but won't talk bad about them. It's their choice.

Actually, it makes Mary a Goddess who reproduced parthenogenically. The rest is a story concocted to keep her from getting killed for being unmarried and pregnant.
