The best way and only way to go about it is to format and reload with the Windows XP CD.

I think the problem is that you are using an 'Upgrade CD', which 'upgrades' the OS to XP. As Vista is already an upgrade of XP, the CD will not be able to perform the operation.

Get an Installation CD of Windows XP with SP2 and do a full fresh install. Completely format and repartition your drive. Most probably you will have to use NTFS as your drive is already formatted with Vista.

hey.!

Depending on your hardware eg. gpu, sound card etc. u may not be able to revert to xp as vista hardware will not work on an xp machine . That is what happened to me, so before you do, make sure all drivers and hardware are compatible.

Once thats over with, you will need to boot up the cd when your computer starts. Insert cd when it asks you to press a key, do so. Once setup has loaded partition n format ur hd. MAKE SURE U DONT DELETE ANY BACKUP PARTITIONS. Then once xp is installed do watever u want.

I have been told you can't
to put XP on a Vista machine - you will have to Format it and wipe vista.
