I treated my dog as usual with Frontline Plus 48hours ago after she had been groomed. Now I have found what seems to be fleas crawling around in her coat. They are brown in colour, very hard to catch, and difficult to kill. If these are fleas (i know they arn't ticks) why are they still bothering my dog after she's been treated? Also, can they be transferred to me?

I've only recently moved, so if the environment is infested how do I treat this? Is there any sprays etc available for purchase that will kill any in the yard until the cycles are killed off? I'm in Melbourne, VIC

Yes unfortunatly they can bite you too.

I use a spot-on treatment by Bob Martin on our dog. However the best way to use any type of spot-on is to apply on the back of the neck, AND under the chin, and the underside of the stomach, and at other random points all over the body. This works every time.

Your dog has been treated, the treatment absorbed into your dog's bloodstream, and now your dog acts as a magnet (which it always did) to draw the fleas to the bait so to speak. Give it some time. The fleas have to get on your dog and draw blood in order to die from the treatment. Eventually the cycle will be broken and all the fleas will die from extracting the tainted blood from your dog. Sometimes in cases when there is a bad infestation of fleas it might take weeks to see an improvement. The important thing to remember is to continue the treatments so the fleas don't re-colonize your home again. Hope this helps.

If you've always used Frontline, you may need to switch to one with a different active ingredient.. Fleas can eventually become resistant to the poison, so, in areas that don't have much of a winter, it's a good idea to rotate your flea killer every few months.. My parents live in Florida and rotate between frontline, advantage and advantix... I would give it another couple days to make sure it didn't work, and then apply something different like advantage or advantix..

If your dog was bathed at the groomers and then the Frontline was applied right away, it probably won't have worked. Bathing washes off the skin's natural oils, and spot-ons do require these to spread through the skin and hence work.

Yes you should treat your house - whatever spray you use, make sure it's from a vets, not a store. And do make sure you get the Frontline on the dog's skin, not his fur.

Frontline didn't work for my dogs this year or any dogs in my area so we all switched to Advantage and goodbye fleas. K V Vet has the best prices around.

I also found that Frontline didn't work..so I switched to Advantix...it works well..With any flea treatment if there are existing fleas they will still bite and then the treatment will affect them, then they die...If you have fleas in your home, I would bomb it or I could take up to 2 weeks for them to cycle through and you dog to get any relief...

FORGET all these other answers.

Get some diatomaceous earth. FOOD GRADE. from a feed store.

lightly sprinkle it on your pet, and her bedding.

be very light. and within days, fleas are gone, for good.

keep using this and you will NEVER have a flea problem. and no chemicals either.
