Hong Kong is much more modern than NYC in just about every way. The buildings, the subways, the internet infrastructure, the airport etc., New York is a great city, but modern it's not.

HK by leaps...The amazing thing about HK is that despite all its modernity, incredible shopping malls, office towers, airport, skyscrapers, ultra-efficient and clean transit system, it has kept what makes it distinctively Chinese. Behind the glitzy neon facades and the shops selling the latest high-tech gadgets, you can lose yourself in small alleys that are centuries away from the new HK, where people still go by their business as if they were in a village, where a classy typical Hong Kong girl wearing high-heel Prada's will buy a cabbage from an old shop-keeper wearing a straw hat...

Thus New York city is more modern.

equally as modern. shanghai more modern than any of them. newer/more futuristic in archetecture/design of skyscapers. also cheaper shopping than HK or NY.
