They do have soccer starting out at 2, its more of a skill building and social thing, so keep the smart remarks to yourself

I'm not from san diego, but I looked it up for you and saw the encino soccer league. what I did here, when my son was that age, I checked around at all of my rec leauges. also, have you tried other sports? I wouldn't listen to any of the people that says he's too young. my son has been in some kind of sport since he was that age and I think it's a great idea! some children have those concepts early. Also, if not soccer, have you considered other sports just to keep him active? Like gymnastics and karate?

good luck!

I wouldn't personally only because most 3 year old hasn't developed enough fine motor skills to run and kick a ball at the same time effectively. And since 3 year olds have a hard time expressing their feelings, they can get easily frustrated. Try going into your yard with a soccer ball and encouraging both girls to play soccer with each other with a small goal net. This way you can see if she really wants to play or she just wants to do what your older daughter is doing. If the 3 year old is really into it, she could play. If not, she can be a "helper" for the team by giving water to the players and other things.

I think that even if your daughter is about to turn 3, this is too young to get them into organized sports. The San Diego - Encinadas lower cut off point is 5 y/o.

In the mean time, just get out in the yard and play with your daughter. Talk with your neighbors and see if they have older kids (ages 5-7) who play. Take your daughter to watch some of their games. While you are there, take a size-3 ball and just kick it back and forth between you and your daughter - IF she wants to.

To contact the league, go to http://www.encinitas-soccer.org/pages/contact.htm for info.

But as others have said, 2 is too young for 99.9% of kids to get involved with organized sports. Suggest you also look at a soccer book by Larry Paul. Good insight on 'small sided soccer' that you can find some fun games you can play with your daughter.

Best of luck!

There are no intramural sports for toddlers that young. Not only are most toddlers still too wobbly at 2 (or 3) but they have no concept of teams or sports rules. Just play with him in the backyard until he's older (probably 5 or 6) when he'll understand.
