I don't enjoy it when anyone knocks on my door to sell anything.

What I was wondering is, do JW's realise that if they didn't set out 'till noon. They would have less chance of being sworn at, and less chance of seeing me naked?

Or is there something in the Watchtower that specifies waking people up?

Unsurprisingly, because morning tends to be convenient for the Witnesses themselves. Of course, Jehovah's Witnesses may call at any reasonable hour of the day, and they try to do so at times when they are likely to reach householders at home.

In most parts of the United States, each congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses has a daily "meeting for field service" at either 9:am or 9:30am. They discuss a daily text, review a few points concerning the ministry, assign partners and territories, and then pray for holy spirit. In most places, Witnesses approach their first doors at either 9:30am or 10:am.

The United States branch office of Jehovah's Witnesses recommends that local congregations do not plan to call at homes earlier than 9:am, unless there is a prior appointment. When unhappy householders complain that "Jehovah's Witnesses" call at unreasonable times of the day, the householders should perhaps ask themselves exactly why they believe it must have been genuine Witnesses who knocked or rang the doorbell.

It's a good question. It's usually the morning, or more to the point, Saturday or Sunday morning, when I see them. I rarely see them in the afternoon or evening, even in the summer time. I suppose mornings are most convenient for them.

They aren't there to sell anything, although when I've been offerred free literature the JW doing the offerring has mentioned that they accept donations for it. Needless to say, I haven't taken the literature, or offerred a donation thus far.

it's all to do with how their 'congregation' is organised and structured. they fix time periods for their preaching that can pull in the most people. mornings are more appropriate for mums etc. and saturday mornings for families. their preaching timetable usually intertwines with their meeting schedule as well, you might also find that you live in an area where there are lots of 'pioneers' (people that preach part or full time) and so you'll get 'hit' more often. one thing to remember is that JW's are statistic based, if you answer your door and are friendly they will mark you as 'interested' on their return to the kingdom hall, which will then engender a re-visit. so the choice is yours , once you talk to a JW you're on the hook, next stop, a world full of smiles, doom and gloom and brief cases. when the only thing you look forward to is the end of the world, your personality tends to be a little bit negative.

Sometimes it doesn't matter what time of day we call - where i am from we have arrangements morning, afternoon and evening, i even personally go out on my own after dropping my two older kids at nursery i meet up with a friend and one day nearly every door we called at (between 10.30-11.30 a.m.) was a man, young!, wearing only a dressing gown! we felt truly blessed that day! lol it was funny, and each and every one of them was very polite, we apologised for the inconvenience made in disturbing them and asked if it would be okay to call another more suitable time and most of them said yes! So not everyone is rude to us and if they are I always just smile nicely and say sorry and ask if they'd rather we never called again and sometimes they say yes, sometimes they slam the door, but most times they apologise for being rude and say they are not interested. :-)

ROFL @ kini... I love your way of words :D

But, we are NOT doom and gloom preachers. We look forward to the end of this system of things because THEN righteousness will dwell on the earth and there will be countless blessings (no death, crime, poverty etc)

If you work at night or sleep in late, definitely feel free to indicate that on your door and Witnesses will NOT bother you at that time. We'll make a special effort to come back at a later time.
If you'd rather we didn't call at all, post a "No tresspassing" sign and 9 1/2 out of 10 times, no one will ever bother you (sometimes we truly do not see such a sign because it's obstructed or we're not paying attention).

Honestly, I am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses. We often call through out the day. Often people are home and willing to talk in the morning hours.

I have never had someone be so childish as to curse at me or so retarded as to come to the door naked.

Stick a label on your door telling the missionaries not to call.

Firstly this has nothing to do with the Watchtower. It is only a magazine.
We call on people because Jesus commanded his disciples to and Jesus himself did a similiar work.
Secondly,we call on people at all different times.
Thirdly,we dont sell anything.Even our time is free
