Most laws in society are based on the basic 10 commandments. The problem is that we has a society pick and choose what commandment we will follow and we weight them in terms of what we think is more "serious". Thou shalt not kill (murder serious offense) , Thou shall remember the Sabbath holiday and keep it holy ( considered a less of an offense). i personally have the opinion, that God hates sin of any kind , and makes no distinction between the sin ? sin is sin . we are told that the wage of sin is death. the beauty of it , is that you can ask for forgiveness and if you are sincere it will be granted.

The trouble with liberals is just that they know so much that isn't so. The Liberal ideology is a theory , fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality. Criminals don't pay any attention to laws... If guns were ever banned than only the bad guys would have them..Criminals prefer unarmed victims!! Having a gun will not help all the time but being defenseless will never help.. When seconds matter calling 911 and asking the bad guy to wait is not a viable option. Better to have a gun and not need it than to need it and not have it!!! **Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens.** @

Laws in the U.S. are based on the 10 Commandments??
The first 4 are related to only worshiping the Christian God and keeping Sunday holy. The U.S. is a nation with freedom of religion and 24/7 shopping and working.
Thou shalt not commit adultery --yeah, start locking people up for that one, that will get funny.
Thou shalt not steal --we do have laws that I think people regardless of religion/nonreligion can argue promote a stable society that would otherwise devolve into chaos without.
Others have to do with coveting which is more of a thought crime. Coveting you friend's wife is not a healthy thing for yourself or the relationships but its hardly a helpful society law, more a useful personal guideline. I don't think locking people up for "thought" crimes is going to work to well.

There is no god therefore law can not be based upon following god.
In some oppressive states laws are based upon following a non-existent god but there is a reason that we in the western world look down on those governments.
The Ten Commandments are a very bad set of rules which would require us to kill people who break the Sabbath (though it wouldn't violate the one about killing because it doesn't actually ban killing just murder (thou shalt not kill was actually a mistranslation)).

So all atheists are criminals now? ROFL
They abide by the law of the land, secular laws. The commandment about not having idols (second or first depending on who you talk to) is actually contrary to most laws in the Western World which guarantees religious freedom. Honouring you mother and father, where is that written into law?

The days of the Inquisition during the dark ages when the church ruled the world has left us with the legacy of free speech and democratic countries around the world.
We now have the separation of powers, thus being the greater for a government elected by the people for the people and not some mere feeble appointed people in the name of God.

Just as soon as you start following rules about not mixing fabrics, not letting menstruating women into places of worship, not eating shrimp or shellfish, sacrificing animals in the proper manner, etc.
Hey, don't blame me, it's all in the book of Leviticus. After all, it is God's law!
What's that? It's symbolic? Symbolic of WHAT, exactly? Sorry, the words in the book mean what they mean! You people use Leviticus 18:22 and other verses to justify your bigotry against homosexuals, but all of a sudden the other verses in Leviticus don't matter? What kind of hypocrisy is that?!
If you're going to say that the Bible is God's law and the absolute truth, then you have to follow ALL that stuff. 100%. When you see a gay person, it is your Biblical duty to stone him to death. You may get thrown in prison or executed for it, but don't fret: you're only following God's law!

And why do you assume that atheists would automatically break the ten commandments? The ten commandments are just common sense rules that enable people to live in relative harmony with each other - they make as much sense without any religious dogma.

They don't abide by who's law? the law of reilgion? my country doesn't use the bibles law as it's law. Law is based on case law, not some 2000 year old book..
