Jehovah's Witnesses...Obeisance Part 2?

Question

Okay, I asked a question a day ago about the use of the word obeisance in the Greek Scriptures.

Many of the witnesses who responded said the the greek word Proskyneo which is sometimes translated worship, can be used to signify respect such as the "kissing of ones hand".

I FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF THIS.

Assuming that the word Proskyneo is translated wither "worship" or "obeisance". This is what I have found:

The word "worship" appears 36 times in the NT of the New World Translation. Of the 35 times "proskyneo" was translated worship, There is NO INSTANCE where the word was not used to denote actual "worship", rather it be to God or to a false god.

I also found that the word Proskyneo was translated "obeisance" 19 times in the NT. Of those 19 times 16 of these were directed towards Jesus. The remainding 3 were as follows:
1 to Jehovah
1 Cornelius to Peter (Where Peter told him "Do not do that")
1 Those from Synogogue of Satan to Congregation Of Philidelphia

So my question still remains. What is the difference between the two?

It seems clear to me not only by Peters response to Cornelius, but also, simply by the way Proskyneo was translated and used 35 times before it made reference to Jesus. IT ALWAYS MEANT WORSHIP.

It seems all to obvious, to me, that Proskyneo, rather you translate it "worship" or "obeisance", means the same thing.

If I am wrong and there is and instance where Proskyneo is used to signify simply "respect or reference" please point that scripture out to me.

The thrid example in Rev 3:9, according to the KJV, the synogogue of Satan is to worship the Christian.

Since all "worship"is to be directed to Jehovah, this example shows that "obeisance" or respect is given to Christians.

Peter was not lording it over Cornelius, thus this visible sign of submission was not acceptable.

There are also many examples in the Hebrew Scriptures of people "bowing down" to human kings.

Was this in Worship or obedience?

Proskyneo literally means "bow down" not "worship".

Looking up this word in the Strong's Dictionary, you don't find the word "worship" in it's meaning.

It is the translator who must determine if the bowing down is a sign of respect or an act of worship.

I feel I have the experience to give you a thorough answer. I myself have had sexual excitement toward other women. I have had an initial sexual lesbian experience and found it to be not what i enjoyed. I seem to find observing women now that what i truly enjoy is the thought that i want to look like her. It's not sexual. I did these things and I find I no longer have the desire yet i have dreams about it. Well not so much now but ten years ago. I believe because we are so far from perfection that indeed a person with the mind and desire of a woman could be born into a man's body. I believe that if you are single it is not difficult to say no if you love Jehovah more than yourself. As to the continued desire that is homosexual for a brother is to say he must fight it. As i have fought it. Jehovah can help you win your fight and there is no doubt that if you draw close to Jehovah you won't have a lot of free time to ponder such desires, always having plenty to do in the work of the lord. be steadfast ands persistant in prayer to head off wrong desires and pray every time it comes up into your heart. This is what happens when the greek texts for the new world order, i mean the new world translation bible are supplied by individuals such as Westcort and Hort who as well as being prime minisiter of england and archbishop of canterbury respectively were also Spiritualists within the society for psionic research.(an act the Jw's condemn).

This is also what happens when occultists such as Johannes Greber are left to form the New world translation bible.
Seeing as the bible says he who takes a word away from this book will have their name removed from the book of life, and he that adds will ahve the seven plagues added to him, one would have to be an occultist to carry out the blasphemic work of creating a new bible based on the spiritualist text of westcott and hortt wihout being too worried about it.

but where any reference of worship is mentioned for Jesus, they change it to obesiance, to make it look like he never received any worship but mere respect

There is a difference.

"Worship" (in English) is only properly rendered to God. Lexically speaking, homage could be directed toward a human. But, obeisance does not necessarily imply worship. It can simply mean to "bow" or "fall down before" someone or something (See Rev. 3:9 NIV).

In the English language, "worship" often is used to denote: "the reverent love and devotion accorded a deity, an idol, or a sacred object." It can also mean "ardent devotion" or admiration.

Based on these definitions, it would not be Biblically fitting for humans to "devote" themselves to any created animate or inanimate object. Worship should only be directed toward God. Conversely, obeisance neither always involves worship nor devotion (cf. the Hebrew Shachah).

This prostration [in Rev. 3:9] has no religious significance but is simply the traditional (oriental) expression of homage and honor, which has been chosen to translate as "grovel".

NIV "I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you."

The Greek word “proskyneo” is derived from the verb ky•ne´o, “kiss”.

From G4314 and probably a derivative of G2965 (meaning to kiss, like a dog licking his master’s hand); to fawn or crouch to, that is, (literally or figuratively) prostrate oneself in homage (do reverence to, adore): - worship.


The Hebrew is hish•ta•chawah´ and the Greek pro•sky•ne´o in many cases.

Psalms 2:12 - 12 Kiss the son, that He may not become incensed.

So we have to “Kiss” the Son, that is ky•ne´o, “kiss”.

The primary "question" here seems one of semantics regarding the term "worship".

Jehovah's Witnesses fully understand and agree that Jesus Christ the Son deserves and receives what can be described as "worship", but only when the English-language word "worship" has been properly defined. The obeisance and honors due the Christ should remain unambiguously subject to the "exclusive devotion" which is owed to the Father, Jehovah God. The Scriptures quite plainly show that true worship is uniquely devoted to the person of Almighty Jehovah God the Father. His Son, Jesus, personally taught that Jehovah deserves a unique form of "sacred service".

(Matthew 4:10) Jesus said... ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’

(Luke 4:8) Jesus said... ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’

(Exodus 20:5) I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion


Jehovah the Father specifically directs that Jesus the Son receive obeisance and honor. Note that Jesus is at God's right hand and has *BECOME* better than the angels.

(Hebrews 1:6) [God] says: “And let all God’s angels do obeisance to him [Jesus].”

(Hebrews 1:3-4) [Jesus] sat down on the right hand of the Majesty in lofty places. So he has become better than the angels

Sometimes the advarsary tries to stumble us by getting us stuck in a rut. My suggestion to you is to put all this on the back burner and keep on taking in knowledge. john 17;3 If your heart is truly in the right place The light will shine brighter on this subject. Dont throw in the towel.
