personally i think it's because it makes them feel better about themselves and more devoted to god.
they ask controversial questions, atheists answer, religious people get pissed off and state how much they love god and how god will save them and how atheists are all damned...and there you go. they suddenly feel better and special.
selfish motives.

"Why do Atheist eat Capt'n Crunch" They do? I'm an atheist and I hate Capt'n Crunch. I'm guessing some of the schools are letting out for Christmas vacation and anytime this happens the collective intelligence of the internet usually takes a major nosedive.

Atheistism? Is that a word? LOL.
And why not ask questions directed at atheists? Everyone else here gets questions directed at them! We don't want the atheists to feel left out.

Atheism is an anti-religion. Most are aware that they strike a nerve with believers, even those with no active faith so they're just messing with you. I guess that's a fun Atheist thing.

What's with the "Atheist?"
If people are reasoning out on why or who are "these" atheist then there's no problem satisfying there curiousity.
The only problem would be if you'd ask yourself if your an "atheist?"
