I'm watching 'Dogfights' on the History Channel, and one of the Tuskegee Airmen goes after a P-51 that has German Air Force markings on it. The History Channel goes on to say that the Germans stole some P-51's so that they could infiltrate the Allied Air Force, but don't say how that was done.

Anyone know?

Captured planes that put down in Allied Europe due to battle-damage were sent to a special base to be examined, and if possible repaired for evaluation, these were then used to infiltrate bomber swarms in attacks.

The also used Spitfires, Typhoons, Hurricanes, DC3, and numerous other Allied Aircraft.

I think the Russians did the same with several USAF B-29 bombers that had to do an emergency landing in Russian territory after bombing missions into Japanese held territory.

THe Soviets returned the crews, but kept the planes and Stalin ordered the Tupolev design bureau to copy the plane and build a russian version of it.

Therefore, the Tupolev Tu-4 "Bull" was created; a mirror image of the B-29; 847 Tu-4s were made and only 3 remain; two in China and one in the Monino Air Museum in Russia.

Same way we stole theirs. Out of all those that are shot down there must be a few that are not to badly damaged. They can be repaired and fly again.

Yeah I seen it. I was about 9 when it actually happened. I used to have toy Airplanes like those. :)
