God to have mercy on the people in Hell and give them another chance to choose God and repent?

God does choose to go against His word and show mercy to people in the Bible, for example: He told Adam and Eve that if they ate the forbidden fruit they would die the very same day they ate it. However, everyone knows that He did not follow through with this. He also told Moses that He would destroy the Israelites who had worshipped the golden calf, yet Moses was eventually able to convince Him to have mercy on them. If God could stay His judgment against Adam and Eve and change His mind about destroying the idol worshippers, then there is a chance He could change His mind where the people in Hell are concerned.

The question is, once you got to Heaven, would you try to convince God to give the people in Hell another chance to be saved? Please tell me why or why not.

Kuulio,
Here is the verse that you claim does not exist: Genesis 2:17
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for ON THE DAY you eat from it, you will certainly die."

Also, God had all intention of destroying EVERYONE who worshiped the golden calf, yet Moses convinced him to give them another chance to choose God. Then Moses went down to the people and said, .."Whoever is for the LORD, come to me." And all the Levites rallied to him. Genesis 32:26

The people who chose God were not killed. God did indeed give the remaining people a plague but it was not with the intent to destroy them, but to punish them for a time. He even decided not to travel with them any more for the purpose of making sure He didn't get upset with them again and perhaps try to harm them. He gave these people another chance to choose Him, and many of them did.

Now will you actually answer my question?

..and before you try to say that you have already answered it, please look again. My question was: would you try to convince God to have mercy on the people in Hell and give them another chance to choose God and repent? Why or why not?

Free Thinker,
So I guess that means your answer is "no". I'm just wondering if you would stick with that answer if it just happened to be your children in Hell. By the way, you have a very interesting interpretation of the Genesis verse I gave. It's quite a concept actually: if you don't like the obvious meaning of a verse, make up your own. It's not an original strategy (it is used by Christian Pastors on a daily basis) but hey, if it works for you then go for it. This particular type of Christian behavior never fails to amuse me. ;)

Of course I would ask God to give the people in Hell another chance. Why? Because I'm sure some people that I love are there, and that's a tough thought to bear.

But in all truth, I think that's already what He's planning. The Bible says that God doesn't want anyone to perish without being saved. I would think that if that's true, He'll do everything within the realm of His holiness to prevent that from happening.

God did not change his mind about what to do with Adam and Eve. He did not say anywhere that they would die that same day. Up until they ate they had the ability to live forever in the garden. When they disobeyed they were banished and ultimately died. No change of mind, no misunderstanding, so that part of the argument is thoroughly flawed. And as far as what happened to those who made and worshipped the calf I think you forgot to read that before saying they were let off the hook. Here are a couple passages from Exodus 32.

27 Then he said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.' " 28 The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died. 29 Then Moses said, "You have been set apart to the LORD today, for you were against your own sons and brothers, and he has blessed you this day."

35 And the LORD struck the people with a plague because of what they did with the calf Aaron had made.

And lastly there is your question. For those who live their lives not wanting God to be present and active in their lives they are ultimately getting what they want. They have that life free of God which is what they always wanted. Most descriptions of hell are really man made and there is nothing really definitive but I can assure you that living in a place devoid of God is the epitomy of hell. Imagine being in a place with many other people with no God to center their lives and morals on. I believe the gnashing of teeth is nothing less than what people will be doing to each other in a place without the presence of God.

THE HELLS IN THE BIBLE

The nearest I can figure it out, hell [ and hells ], was created by the people and some deserve to go to places they created. Tophet, Gehenna or Valley of the son of Hinnom hell fire, death and burial by fire or burial by fire [ some in human sacrifice in the fire 2Chr.28:1-4];
Jer.7:30.31; 19:2-5; king Josiah turned it into Mark 9:42-48; the city dump, so it counts nothing for apostles of Jesus Matt.10:28;

Tartarus prison hell. For the angels that sin, Jude 6 [ before flood ], 1Pet.3:18-20 [ Jesus went to visit the angels that sinned before the flood ]; 2Pet.2:4;
the angels that sinned before the flood, kept from doing it again.

The gates of hell or the gates of the grave Matt.16:18; Isa.38:10;
As for Sepulchre, cave, pit, tomb, grave hell, cemetery or burial grounds where most are resurrected from, some from seas or death itself.
Acts 2:27-35; Resurrection of Jesus from hell John 19:38-42; his cave grave.
David was still dead in his sepulchre, cave, pit, tomb, grave hell burial place.
John 3:13-17; No heavenly raised up Rom.16:20; to time of the end when
Satan cast down to earth out of heaven to have a short time Rev.12:3,4,6-11,12;

Rev.3:12;
The heavenly [ for the new heavens ], are with Jesus, to resurrect the dead as earthly [ for the new earth Isa.65:17 ]; 2Pet.3:13;

After the 1000 years. Rev.7-10; No Satan as he is cast into the lake of fire,
fire rains down from heaven to devour men that are like unto Satan. Rev,21:8 [ some deserve the second death, why is beyond imagination ];

Rich man and Lazarus:

I read this with great interest. What you are trying to do is to superimpose human morals on a totally immoral and amoral deity. It doesn't work, because the god of the bible doesn't give a sh it about human morals and values, and wouldn't respond to any such pleas as we would all expect and hope that a moral human being would.

that's one of the main reasons I am no longer a Christian.

I would not, because God's judgement and mercy is not based on my knowledge and feelings. I can't see through His eyes. God judges the heart, He knew Cain & Abel's heart- He knew Jacob & Esau's heart before they were born. I am not happy with the fact that hell exists and that people's spirits actually go there if they reject the salvation that has been bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus, but that is God's business, not mine. As a parent I have had many times when I told my children to do something that they obviously didn't want to do but it was for their safety or for their good. The fact that they didn't understand why I told them this or that is not the issue, the fact that I knew better was the issue. That is basically the position that I see God in.

In review of your question you state that God changed His mind with Adam and Eve. He DID NOT! The day they ate the fruit and disobeyed God they died SPIRITUALLY! That is why Jesus had to come to earth and redeem us. The physical death came later but because they rebelled against God they not only died spiritually but were banished from the Garden of Eden where they were supposed to live in full fellowship with God for eternity. They had to leave the garden because they would now be living forever in spiritual death if they stayed in the garden so God removed them in order to bring about redemption.
22: And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

This next verse is the first prophesy of Jesus coming to redeem us from the sin of Adam. That seed is Jesus.

15: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Moses interceded for people who were spiritually dead and did not have fellowship with God as Adam and Eve once did.

The Choice for salvation is here on earth. Once your spirit leaves your body there are only 2 places that it will go. Heaven or Hell. If heaven was not one's choice while they lived on the earth then by default hell was the choice made. And there is no shadow of turning!

Hell is not a place. Saved from what?

I pray "remember all our enemies who hate and wrong us, and render not unto them according to their deeds, but, according to Thy great mercy, convert them: the unbelieving to true faith and piety, and the believing that they may turn away from evil and do good"
