On some HD movies yes.....I find it more likely on DVDs that I rent...

Not many use 5.1 in everyday shows like American Chopper...

On the shows that actually come in at HD resolutions, they tend to also have 5.1 capabilities. A few other movies that are shown also have 5.1, but it is still pretty limited as far as television.

Most standard def TV channels carry stereo sound only.

But DD5.1 is the defined sound standard for HDTV so all HDTV cable channels provide 5.1 automatically. (You cannot have HDTV without it).

5.1 sound is made capable by the component, not by the cable.
