Hi I am thinking about contracting as a Corpsman, I did my physical on Wednesday and am going to pick a job next week. If I decide to go Corpsman what are the chances of going FMF in my first 4 years. I almost sure I'm going to have to pay my dues in a hospital before I can go to FMSS and then FMF. So if I do get a assigned to a hospital as my first duty station can I request to go FMSS while assigned to a hospital. Or is it possible to go FMSS and then FMF right out of A school. If so cool, but I really want to know is can I get reassigned during my first tour. Thank you

Well I am a navy corpsman right now and as of right now most males comming out of basic in gl are going straight to fmss weather you request it or not. there is a huge shortage of corpsman right now. so if you dont want to get attached to a meu then the corpsman rate is not good right now but if you dont care or are at peace with what the future has in store then go for it like i am ;) if you have any more questions just email me.

I fully support you in going Corpsman and all, but please don't be like the majority. They don't tend to care for the people they are supposed to help. I met a few that do a really good job and they truly and genuinely care. If that is you then I would have to say it is likely that you would be able to reassign. If you are attached somewhere and get your schooling approved then you (which shouldn't be too hard) will be able to go to school and then a different command. You will most likely get assigned to a hospital after your school for hands on training if you go to school first. One of my friends got done with school and ended up at Balboa hospital.

The Navy was good for me, but I am glad it's over.

Good Luck for you and thank you for serving.

Congrats, wish you're making it. i grow to be in the army long term in the past, it grow to be a great journey. Corpsman is a nurse it somewhat is male or lady, additionally a paramedic is a robust term for it. you would be a Seal and likewise a Corpsman, each Seal team has one. Take care and bypass military!

actually, it does happen rather frequently that you get assigned Greenside/FMSS right after A school. I wouldn't say you can ask and have it guaranteed in your contract, but it does happen.

It's just a matter of whether or not HM is even open right now. It may not be.

If you're in excellent shape, you can go FMF as soon as you finish A school. Serving with the Marines is one of the most satisfying feeling you will ever experience.

You will serve an entire year before you will be reassigned. Then when they do reassign you it is never when you want to go. Good luck bud. I used to be there.

The military is a bad idea. You could end up stuck in Iraq. Are you ready to die for EXXON-MOBIL, BP, CONOCO-Phillips?

Ask the recruiter about a little something called Depleted Uranium poisoning....
