I have a horrible back and was prescribed Methylprednisolone to take for a week since my back surgery hasn't done much for me. Since taking it, my chest hurts and my stomach aches...I take naproxyn for pain but have cut down to 500-1000mg a day.. I know it's not all good for my stomach, however, when you are in such severe pain you cant breathe you take that you can take.
Does the Methylprednisolone make your chest feel heavy or stomach hurt? its like way upper stomach between ribs. I am stopping taking them.

The drug you're taking is a corticosteroid. It can cause all sorts of side effects including mood swings, increased appetite, Cushing's Syndrome (if you take it for a long period of time) - just like all other drugs in the class.

The naproxyn may be causing your stomach ache as some NSAID's are hard on the stomach. The Methylpresnisolone is for the swelling and not so much for the pain (even though reduced swelling can decrease pain).

The link below should answer more questions, but there is a lot of scientific language in the article. Hope you feel better soon.

Side effects that you should let your doctor know immediately: -an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); -increased blood pressure (severe headache or blurred vision); or -sudden weight gain (more than 5 pounds in a day or two). Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur.Continue to take methylprednisolone and talk to your doctor if you experience: -insomnia; -nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset; -fatigue or dizziness; -muscle weakness or joint pain; -problems with diabetes control; or -increased hunger or thirst. Other side effects that occur only rarely, usually with high doses: -acne -increased hair growth, -thinning of the skin, -cataracts, -glaucoma, -osteoporosis, -roundness of the face, and -changes in behavior. I would say continue to take it but call your doctor if it gets worse or it it doesn't go away in a couple of days.

I have taken Methylprednisone before and last time I took it which was 7 years ago I had ended up with several infections that would not clear up right away. It finally took being on IV antibiotics to take care of the problem.

This medication which is a form of prednisone also called Medrol can cause mood swings and bloating. It's also possible that it can cause pain. I would recommend getting in touch with your doctor to let them know what's going on so that they can evaluate the situation further.
