Allah is not the God of Muslims...Allah is the translation of the word God in the Arabic language.
There is only one God.

Corrosion EAC: Agree. In Farsi (Persian) it is "Khoda". However, we use both Allah & Khoda. Basically the same thing!

Allah is the god of Abraham.

Gloria, I tried telling that to my fellow Americans last night. I have friends who are Christian Arabs here who pray to Allah, yet the Americans still insist it is a different god.

Ignorance is hard to overcome, especially when it is reinforced by our media.

Hebrew say "Yahweh"

French say "Dieu"

Spanish say "Dios"

Germans say "Gott"

All the same god they mean as Allah.

Hi,

Sorry but you said Allah is the translation of the word God in English. That is not 100% correct. Allah is two words: The God.

al = the
lah = god

With this being said, Allah is the proper name for the Lord and Creator the Heavens and the Earth.

Allah, being the Most Kind and Compassionate, will still respond to the heart that knows there is only one God, yet goes by one of the hundreds of names people use. Allah looks at people's hearts and intentions.

Dear Gloria, Everyone is born ignorant with some basic skills that are inherited. EVERYTHING has to be learnt from scratch. We are all going through a learning process.

Most Americans do not know that ALL Christians and most Jews from Arab backgrounds from many denominations call God Allah just as all Hispanics perhaps call Him "Dios"or Hindus may call him Brahma, etc.

It is the language barrier that builds misunderstandings. If not ILAH is the root word in Arabic for god, without a capital g, and AL-ILAH or The God is the word for the ONE LORD.

In fact even in Hebrew the words ILOHIM is used for gods and ILOH for god. The Jewish special name for the Almighty is also four lettered, like the Arabic name. Interestingly what is the core name of the Almighty in the Jewish religion is certainly not embodied in the word God. I Am Who I am, is certainly not a meaning of God that is transmitted naturally.

Like the name Allah, YHWH can not have a female or male form, unlike the word god is male, and goddess is female.

Lastly all names in ANY LANGUAGE came after man was created and language was created thereafter. The Almighty is really above all names. People call Him, just as all children call their mommy by a name. The Mommy always knows who is being called, even though the littlest one in the family just knows to call her mow or maaw or maa or what have you, and has no clue as to the real name of the Mom. Yet, the Mom knows who is being called and the little one knows who is needed!!

That is how it is with the Almighty. We call Him and he knows he is being called. He knows us. The other siblings may think it is funny that the little one is using strange words for "their mom", but do not see that the communication is on with the littlest one in the same way as it was on, when THEY were little.

I hope this makes sense.

I'm agnostic but the God of Christians (Holy Trinity - Holy Father, Holy Spirit, Son - Jesus Christ), the many gods of the Hindus, and the god of the Muslims are not the same deity. Maybe Allah is just an Arabic word, but do a Wittengenstein (the meaning is in the use!). Allah is specifically used by Muslims, and it has a new secondary meaning.

Because most Americans know next to nothing about other cultures and most Christians know nothing about their own religion, let alone anyone else's.

Islam has the same Semitic war god that Judaism, Christianity and Mormonism do, the "god" of Abraham, YHWH.

Until maybe 45 seconds ago I, too, thought Allah was the name for the God of Muslims. I think we uninformed get that idea when we see Muslims praying to "Allah" and assume that is his name.
But I get it now-better late than never. Thanks for the lesson!

Because we have different religions,
some people are not aware of different languages or history of other religions so they're not really informed about it.

Just have faith with your religion, don't mind other people. And "Religion" is not really important, the most important thing is your relationship to your God. Stay close to him and keep on praying.

When Christian Arabs talk about God, they use the word "Allah", because it's the name of God in their language... so are they also worshipping the so-called "moon god"? I don't know who invented this stupid myth, but it shows how ignorance can control the minds of people who have little access to knowledge beyond what they tell them in some churches or some cheap publications.. I remember the publication that talked about the "moon god". It also said that Prophet Muhammad was actually implanted in Arabia by the Vatican! :p

Anyway, the word Al-lah" sounds like the word Al-Elah in Arabic. "elah" means "god". so Al-lah is "The God".. that is, the true and only God. It's interesting how the word "God" in Hebrew sounds like "Elah" or "Allah".. For example, there is this word "Elohim", which is a reference to God in a very revering way. Taking into consideration that "-im" in the Hebrew word denotes plural, we are left with "Eloh" which is very close to the Arabic word "Elah" (God).. So again, it seems the Jews are worshiping that funny moon god!

I better go to sleep.

Peace-salaam.
