when jesus gave charge to the disciples to go and heal, there was a certain man who's son they could not.
jesus told that the cause was lack of faith.
this shows us that god allows people to suffer because of their lack of faith.
so, when your grandma gets cancer, she deserved it, because her faith was not strong enough.
is this the reality? no
the reality is this: jesus is a wannabe healer who blamed his inability to heal on the sufferer for not having faith.
is this is a certain demonstration that jesus healed by placebo effect?
Placebo effect is the term applied by medical science to the therapeutical and healing effects of inert medicines and/or ritualistic or faith healing manipulations which may have a therapeutical effect based solely on the power of suggestion.
is this why jesus always excused his failures by saying "ye have little faith"?

Okay so now explain how He fed 5,000 people with a few fishes and loaves using this "placebo" effect...
Oh and how He walked on water....
And rose from the dead....

I am not Christian, my interest in Jesus is mostly historical, or as a character in a book. But I think I can answer this.
Jesus had conviction! He had principles. He lived by a set of rules. He was here to teach us the rules, not just through 'teaching' but through example.
In order to -lead- people, you have to be -ahead- of them! Jesus was saying 'Look, I'm not afraid! Look what I can do, just because I have the courage of my convictions! Be like me and you can do the things I do!'
Of course Jesus was disappointed with his disciples and followers because they were weak and mortal and human. He was good about it, though. He never told anyone they were useless or stupid, that they couldn't learn. He was very forgiving and understanding about human weakness and sin, and he could even handle disbelief.
They didn't know about germs and bacteria and virusses in those days. Jesus healed people by driving out demons. We don't drive out demons today. I don't know if you could cure a blind person by the placebo effect. I'm pretty sure you couldn't bring back a dead person by the placebo effect. 8^) Personally I don't think Jesus really did those things, I think they are just part of the story. But the idea was to show that if you have confidence and faith and courage, you can do stuff you wouldn't believe you could do.

I have a positive take on this. In a fashion similar to the placebo effect, faith in and of itself has health benefits according to some studies. Most Christians are more or less in touch with reality, and thus know better than to try to pray their staph infection away.
As for Jesus healing people, you can believe it all you want. You can also believe that Pele, the goddess of fire, is the cause of volcanic eruptions.

Did you just discover the word "placebo" and decide to try and use it in a rant? There is nothing you can do to deserve Cancer. Christianity is not a works based faith, so the amount of faith you have has nothing to do with your health or fortune. You just have to have some. The bible talks about people having different levels of faith as a matter of fact...

You're misunderstanding the passage you're referring to. No, people don't deserve to get cancer or suffer simply because their faith might not be as strong as someone else's. We all have our moments of weakness, and God understands that. And, as far as strong faith, Jesus told His disciples they only needed faith as small as a mustard seed. Do you realize how teeny, tiny a mustard seed is?
But, to the point, the lack of faith Jesus was referring to in Matthew 17:14-20 was that of **His disciples**, NOT that of the demon posessed boy or his father. Jesus holds His disciples to a higher standard. They had witnessed His power and miracles firsthand, and He had given them the authority to drive out demons in His name. After all they had witnessed, if the disciples lacked faith that they had this authority in Jesus' name... if they let fear dispel their belief, why shoud the demons take them seriously?
"Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, 'Why couldn't we drive it out?'
He replied, 'Because you have so little faith.'" -Matthew 17:19-20

Sugar is a very strong mood elevating substance. (It is also highly addictive). Sugar pills should never be taken if all you are after is a placebo effect. And if you're using them for research purposes they're going to skew your results.
