Is it true that you have to pay an annual fee to be able to use your Vista or else it disables? Would you consider reverting to XP and earlier versions after your experience?

Vista is the best so far (for me) for Security / Drivers / Media Player (Media Center). XP is much stable because it has all resources that is compatible with 'codes' of programmers. I have 512MB of RAM and GeForce 2 display card, no problem. Occasionally lags but so far, so good. It has Compatibility Issues and I'm looking for Service Release 2. :-)

No it is not true there is no fee just buy the anytime upgrade and your set . As for using it I like it i still use xp for gaming though system seems to play better on xp then vista just cause of aero and other stuff that I know can be shut off but why when it looks so cool . So after my experience of vista versus xp I would stick with vista ultimate just make sure you have a beefy system and you will be fine . as for price go to the link i posted . Good Luck

I haven't used Vista yet mainly because I'm not interested in buying a new computer to run it. I would wait at least a year for MS to iron the bugs out before making any upgrades. Stick with XP or Win 2K, 2K3, etc.

I can only speak from personal experience. It's terrible. I have a reasonably powerful computer and loaded it up shortly after its release. It lasted less than a week before I went back to XP. Terrible performance, constant driver hassles. It was so terrible that I still wouldn't even consider it. Most of the people I know who use it don't have the tech savvy to reload their OS, or they'd do it in a heartbeat. I have no plans ever to use it, unless the world on the street changes that they've released a service pack that fixes all the crappy performance issues. And I don't expect that to ever happen. Just my two cents' worth.

I run Vista, and it works fine on the computer.
However, it tends to 'hang' using web browsers, and if a page stops downloading, you can't get the browser started again, without re-booting. I don't know if this is a feature of Vista itself, or whether it also has something to do with my third party anti-spam anti-virus software. I encounter the problem particularly when downloading email messages.
