I have to go with Corvette... Working with vehicles for 10 years, it's been my experience that Fords tend to have a lot more mechanical & engine problems than Chevrolets. Not to mention, it is rare to see a problem with Corvettes. Another perk is the craftsmanship is superior in the corvette vs the mustang. You want something built to last and they also hold their value better than mustangs.

Actually the 03-04 Cobra's have next to no problems at all. They are very dependable and you can have more then one person in the car and there is a lot more room.Top gun your numbers for the Cobra arent even right and the vette is not far over these numbers like you mentioned.Even the 02 ZO6 has less horsepower at the wheels then the Cobra. As for who would win the race, well stock vs stock probably the vette.I have an 04 Cobra and they just dont hook up stock. If you could get it to hook up with stock tires the 04 Cobra would more then likely win.I dont care how many people in here dont think a vette cant beat a Cobra while they are in stock form, but the truth is yes a vette can and they do it all the time. And to Brandie, actually those years of vettes do have a good number of problems. They have problems with the rear-ends and the transmissions having premature failures. The motors themselves are very dependable though. As for modding, the Cobra is easier by far to mod and get power out of. For example with my Cobra the only thing I changed engine wise was the supercharger.I have a tad over 620 horse at the wheels on a hot and humid day and there is more power to be had if I wanted it,but I like my car being were it is now.Its my daily driver on most days. Now take an LS engine and give it over 600 horse at the wheels and you usually wont have the driveability of a modded 04 Cobra with a similar amount of power.Im not saying you cant have an LS car with the same driveability Im just saying you usually wont.

No doubt the cobra, it is faster stock (against the base corvette, but against the z06 corvette it is a toss up, due to traction, on stock tires at the track the z06 usually is a tenth or two faster but if they both have drag radials the cobras usually are a little faster in my experiance), it is easier to mod, its reliability is much, much better. The 04 cobra is the most reliable mustang ever built according to consumer reports. 10 out of the 13 catagories that consumer reports grades for reliability, the 04 cobra recieve a "much better then average" score for, which is the highest possible rating that consumer reports gives. 2 were "better then ave" and 1 was "ave". The cobra has a engine that is a hand built 4 valve per cylinder "built" engine, which means all of its internal components are forged. The corvettes engine is only 2 valves per cylinder and its internal components are not forged so if you wanted to put more hp on the corvette you could not go past 500rwhp without having to replace the whole lower half of the engine so it would not blow. The cobra is good up to 1000hp in stock form. I could keep on going, but it is not necassary. Also, like Johnny said, Top gun, your numbers are wrong. As far as the factory numbers go, the 04 cobra has a factory rating of 390hp and 390tq. The 02 corvette has 350hp. The 02 z06 corvette has 405hp. Also like Johnny said though, the cobra has more rwhp, which is all the only number that matters when it comes to hp. The 04 cobras are extremely under rated and make more like 380-390rwhp which is equal to around 430hp or so. The same goes for the tq, they usually make around 380-390rwtq, which is around 430tq or so.

For Johnny,
You dont allow emails so I hope you will get a chance to read this before the question closes so you can shoot me an email. I have read a couple of your posts and you are pretty much right on with most of your info. At first I thought you were not being honest about being a cobra owner, but now I think you probally are a cobra owner. I am not trying to insult you or attack you, the only question I had about your comments. I live in Arizona and I am a 04 cobra owner. In one of your previous posts you said that all cobra owners, you included, know that 03/04 cobras dont run a 12.9 1/4 stock unless its a great driver or it has mods. This comment is completely false here in Az and in 99% of the country. I spend every weekend at firebird raceway and before I modded my 04 cobra (I made 385rwhp and 390rwtq on the dyno stock) I ran a 12.865 @ 108.45 with a 60' of 1.988 completely stock with the spare tire removed, 1/2 tank of gas, and 35psi in the stock goodyears. That was my fastest time of the day, I also ran a 12.898, 12.932, and a 13.337 (like you said, the traction can be rough, my 60' on that one was 2.320)
I am not a professional driver by any means, expecially then, it was when I was first starting. It was about 90 degrees out. I spend every weekend at the tracks and I have seen stock after stock 03/04 cobras run between 12.8-12.9. I agree with you that traction can be a problem with the cobras, and if you read "fast fords and muscle mustangs" you will know that Evan Smith, their driver, ran a 12.43 1/4 mile with a 03 cobra that was completely stock except for a pair of nitto drag radials on the rear wheels. I dont know if your track is at high altitude, or your tracks surface is not that great, but I sware to you on my families life that everything I have just told you is 100% true. I could sent you a hundred time slips and videos, but as far as I am concerned, unless I see it in person, I dont trust it. Just because someone says there car is stock, doesnt mean that it is. If you get this, shoot me an email to let me know what you think.

Well you're asking in a Ford section so I'm guessing alot of people are going to be picking the Cobra.
I'll go with Cobra too, because it's more useful as a regular car and there's alot more that can be done to it. Also it's the last year of that body style so it should be worth some money some day.

I have personally owned both, and my opinion is to take the cobra, it has far more potential. case & point, about a year ago, i had a 03 cobra, only bult on mods, which costed him only around 3,000, but gave me 608RWHP, 682FTLB of torque, allowed me to hit low 11.s in the quarter mile, and have a top speed of around 190 mph, whereas even when the cobra is modded as stated, the corvette costs more, it is slower, parts are harder to find, and the parts are more expencive. besides, no corvette's exhaust compares to the whine of the cobra's supercharger when driving down the road.

vette by far. 04" Cobra is 390 hp and 425 lbs torque as compared to lighter Vette that is well over these figures.
