I`m going skiing for the first time but I don`t know if most people wear goggles or sun-glasses. I`m not doing anything fancy, just basic skiing and falling over

You can probably get by with sunglasses, but you really are better off with goggles for 3 reasons

1. Goggles have lenses that actually enhance your view of the snow surface, this can be very helpful if you end up in the shadows.

2. Goggles "wraparound" to protect your eyes from snow in the air, or snow pushed up by other skiers. You can get around this to some extent with wraparound sunglasses, but you won't get the seal you get with goggles.

3. Goggles stay on your head better than sunglasses, because of the tightness of the strap. You can get a strap for you sunglasses, but it probably won't be as sturdy as a goggles strap, and you could lose them when you fall.

Good luck with the skiing.

I only wear goggles on the days when it is snowing. I generally wear my prescrption sunglasses almost every day I ski. If you wear glasses and don't own contacts, then even those will be fine. If you do normally wear contacts, then sunglasses or goggles would be a good idea.

Even for your first time skiing, goggles would be a good idea.
They keep the snow, wind, and light out of your eyes. If you fall on your face, goggles will protect your eyes where as sunglasses could dig into your eyes.

I rarley wear either. Don't wear sunglasses though, their just harder to manage while you're skiing. If it's snowing, then you should wear goggles. You can decide if you want to use them or not. Have a fun first time skiing!!!!!

depends on if its snowing or not. If its snowing, goggles are a MUST! and sunglasses won't work at all!!!!

if its not snowing and there's no chance of snow, sunglasses should be an acceptable substitute... but make sure you don't lose them (easier said than done)... better just to have goggles (preferably tinted ones)... make life a lot easier on the slopes

If you can buy one pair (no fog) do so because if you have a bright sunny day, blowing snow day or heavy snow day they will be a invaluable. You'll have them for the future even though it's the first time. You might were them on the top of your head from time to time but when you need them at the ski resort is not the time to buy them $$$.

It can be dangerous getting powdered snow in your eyes even if it only blinds you for a second or 2. goggles are smart

you can ski with sunglasses, but i think goggles are better cuz they dont fall off that easily (when you fall) I actually recommend using goggles....

You dont need googles if you have a pair of sunglasses that fits well. Its important to wear sunglasses because the intensity of the sun is greater on the mountains. Have fun!
