Do you think that religious people (ie Churchs) do the most good for people, or non-religious organizations do the most charitable works?

What kind of charitable work is done, and why?

I am asking because I think that helping people really is a lost art--no one seems to notice people in need, except to complain about them

When it comes to Charitable works I never have to look for them. They always find me. It's if I chose to do it or not. I find I am always were God wants me to be. Now do I help or not? Money isn't the only way to show Charity. Time, a kind word, carry a package, open a door or just listening can all be the works God wants to see from us.

First of all I do not have a religion; i have a savior Jesus Christ. Jesus asks that we serve others, and the Bible tells us that Jesus loved the poor. Ideally i believe the Church should do the most charitable works. Unfortunately many Christians are Hypocrites; so sadly non Christian groups are probably more charitable.

To answer your first question, I do not belong to any religion and thus am not required to do anything.Any act that is done out of a requirement is not done from the heart.I can not speak to your second question since it is a matter of opinion and naturally the opinion would be based on who ever answers. There are both religious and non religious charities. Many religious charities help the homeless and less fortunate. Many non religious charities help fight disease and hunger.Neither religious nor non religious charities, however, have been known to exclusively be the only kind of charity for either.

I run a charity group for the poor.

I don't have a religion, however, I have volunteered for over 30 years, and I donate to over 20 different charities.

I have heard of some religious groups who will only help those in need if they convert -- which I think is horrible.

i believe we as a believer should help those n need no matter what....but i was appaulled to find that most of the local churches only help members ,how sad although they do give to the food pantry and local orginazations.

Every religion should have service as one of their main goals. We as L.D.S. help others in every way we can that is moral and positive.

Dear Mary Redshirt,

My religion doesn't require me serve others- but as a Christian just like my master Jesus Christ- i love to serve other people.

As a youth pastor some of the projects that i lead my church youth in are:

1) 30 hour famine: we raise awareness and funds for children who are starving in 3rd world countries.

2) Raise 100k to save 100: We are working to free those in 3rd world countries who have been sold into teen prostitution. Its a joint effort with a lot of other local Chinese Baptist Churches.

3) Invisible Children: We showed this video in our youth group and have been doing some things to raise funds and awareness.

4) Created to Serve: It's a minstry where we go to skid row in L.A. and serve the Homeless. I really enjoy this ministry because one of the ladies we spoke with last time shared how there are places to get food all over L.A. but no one ever goes and talks to them- so it's nice to give people warm food and also to warm their lives up with kindness.

5) Tijuana: We go down to Tijuana bi-monthly, quarterly to paint houses, run Vacation Bible Schools, etc.

6) Pala: We go down to Pala and hold carnivals and run ministries -- there are a lot of Hispanic youth down there.

7) Overseas: i go to Hong Kong and work with children of medical missionaries and i've learned a lot about some of the struggles of these kids and it's been great to know them and love them.

**I think that is sad if people will only serve others if they convert. As a Christian you love people whether they love your or Jesus back or not. Jesus has given our church and me personally opportunities to share about God's love as we serve and love others.

It's hard to gauge who does more work- and i just thank the Lord that there are people out there who care about other people.

Kindly,

Nickster

nope, I'm atheist, so when I do something, its because I WANT to, not because its expected of me. the only 'church' that does anything for people without expecting as much back is the Sally Ann.
