We do not have cable, and our TV is inside of a wooden armoir. We have terrible reception even though we have the old fashioned "bunny ears" antenna on top of the armoir. Any tips for getting better reception (without having to pay for cable?)

Oh ABSOLUTELY......

First you get an Eight Bay Bowtie antenna....

Then you get all the cables, mounts and hardware needed to properly mount it.

Then you go here to adjust it.

You think you are going to get good reception with rabbit ears? Is that correct? Get serious. Your old equipment won't work without buying a converter, and cable is the only way to get good reception. Or, you could get the Fox TV addon for Firefox, but you only get one channel out of India, in Farsi, and the picture is smaller than your hand.

Are you talking about VHF or UHF reception? In either case, you need to mount the antenna outside on the roof. VHF are channels 2-13 and UHF are channels 14 to 88. The 8 bay bow antenna that the TV Tech guy is always pushing is only for UHF. You need a VHF Yagi multi-element for the lower channels (VHF). Bottom line: the antenna(s) should be mounted on the roof.

If you want to get free broadcast TV, you need a better antenna. A rooftop antenna would be ideal, but they make plenty of small portable antennas. Try a different one.

Try a rooftop mounted antenna, or at least a signal booster.

Here's what you need to do: if your neighbors have trees or shrubbery that may block your reception, cut them down post haste.

Then, fashion hats for everyone in your family out of tinfoil.

Next you must sit on the roof of your house with a piece of wire connecting the tinfoil hats to your olde fashioned bunny ears.

That, I believe, will do the trick quite nicely.
