my dog is really well potty trained, he never pees in my apartment, but for some reason he thinks that my condo's lobby is outdoor, how can i train him to not pee in the lobby?

He probably smells another dog's scent and is marking territory. I would say most ANY dog can be trained. Dogs are extremely smart. There needs to be punishment as soon as he does the bad deed. EVERY TIME.

And when you go through the lobby, be on your guard for him to try and do it and nip it in the bud BEFORE he tries. Pull the leash faster and do NOT let him stop anywhere inside the lobby. Or carry him if possible.

I have used that "ssssss" sound the dog whisperer uses on TV for YEARS - long before I ever saw that guy on TV. For my dogs, the SSSSSS means many things, but they KNOW that they had better pay attention to me, sit, stop what they are ABOUT to do, etc, OR ELSE. You are responsible for the dog's behavior, much as a parent and a child. You can train him, just be firm and consistent.

Good luck!

He might do that because other dogs have done the same or he is still smelling the faint residue of his own urine.

You need to watch him closely in the lobby. When he gets the "Im going to pee on it look", get ready to correct him. When he so much as lifts his leg, make a sharp "ah ah" sound and firmly poke him with a few fingers- not to hurt him, but to make hum focus on your touch and not what he was about to do." Then take him out to pee in an appropriate place and praise him.

I got my corgi from the pound when he was a year and a half. He was neutered when we got him so he had the male scent marking behavior which is more likely in dogs late to be neutered, but small dogs are more prone. Using the method above, I potty trained him so he wont pee in my apt. He still has trouble in the vets office and petco (but that is because so many other dogs pee there, its like a freaking invitation) He also still has trouble at other people's houses, but is improving because I watch him carefully and correct him when and only when he tries to pee in a bad place. (My husband and I have had him for about 3 months now)

maybe it looks like the outdoors to him

see if the management will let you move the potted plants/trees/ferns

what is on the floor? carpeting?tile? Your dog might think it is grass or just plain ugly
remove it all!!! (jk)

is he getting old, sometimes dogs know it is not acceptable to go pee in the master's house, but the lobby is ok 'cause he can no longer hold it anymore, and the master doesn't own it, so its all good!--see if he has a bladder infection or control problem.

If he has marked a spot in the lobby then you need to douse it with vinegar to eradicate the odor so that he/she will not mark there again.
Use a praise and reward system with your dog. Your dog wants to please you. You must be on alert so that you will be able to stop your dog before he/she begins.

He's marking the entrance to his home. A firm tug(NO YANKING!!!) on his leash, and a scolding word to him should work on him if he's well trained. If he's small enough, you could try to carry him out the door first before he gets to the floor, and break the cycle that way. Or, you could try to take him through a different exit.Either way you must break the cycle to stop this behavior.

An immediate reaction from you and him on leash being pulled outside while you verbally give him a 'what for' will let him know it's not acceptable.

I hope you've been cleaning the mess up.

If he is peeing inside, he is not housetrained.. Plus your dog isn't peeing.. he is marking the territory. correct him when he does that. Neuter him.
