Right on Manny. Get it fixed and drive to a police station. Get an officer to certify the repair has been made and deliver the signed off ticket to the court. Make sure you appear at the traffic arraignment. Check with the court clerk to verify the date and time and courtroom. If you have to appear, show the judge the signed-off repair. If the Court Clerk says you do not have to appear, get it in writing--a printout or form signed by the Clerk--and then you'll be set. Good luck.

The law may be different in CA but here in KY, if you fix it before the court date, you can take the receipt for the repair to the county clerk's office before the date or take it with you to court on the day you are suppose to appear and it will be dismissed. If you wait until the court date, you may have to pay court costs so you'll probably be better off to do it ahead of time. If you can't read the officer's writing, call the clerk's office in the city where you got the ticket and they can check the docket to give you the date - do this ASAP- if you miss the date, the judge can issue a bench warrant for failure to appear and/or contempt of court. The clerk's office can also tell you what to do to take care of the ticket.

Call the court in the county/city where the ticket was issued and give them the number from the ticket and they can tell you when and where to go.
Chances are that it is just a bulb or fuse that caused your taillight to be out. Some service stations do repairs like that.
Wish I could help you more,
Hope

Okay, yes you need to get a new taillight. Maybe you should try and go to both places where you had gotten your ticket from. It's just to make sure, and besides you don't want to take a risk of choosing one or the other.

It's a fix-it ticket, so fix the problem, go to a police station and have an officer sign off that you fixed it, then you pay the $10? fee to the court to close the case.

different in my state..they give a 15day warning for you to replace/fix in your case the light, and then if you do not take care of it get a ticket. but to answer your question, replace it and typically you can get another officer at a different PD to sign that it is fixed..but i would call the PD where you were issued the ticket and ask...seeing as you have to call them anyways to know when you need to show up and what time.

DEAD TAILLIGHT IS NOT A MOVING VIOLATION BUT A MECHANICAL VIOLATION.
GET IT FIXED AND DOCUMENTED AT ANY CHECK STATION AND NOTIFY THE COURT OR PLACE TO BE NOTIFIED ON YOUR TICKET THAT THE DEAD TAILLIGHT PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED.

Dead tail light, you usually get a warning. Which means you have certain length of time to get fixed and show proof. Then no fine.
Check with your local police dept. and ask them what procedure is for out of town.
